Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Amy @Fuckyeahkoreancosmetics

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m an Australian girl working in South Korea on expatriate assignment. I live in between Korea and Australia. When in Korea my workplace is in a shipyard on an island off Korea. There isn’t much to do in my down time so I started buying Korean cosmetics, became addicted and started my instagram account.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I generally post about Korean skincare and makeup products that I have tried, often with a little anecdote from my daily life. I also review other western beauty products and compare them to Asian beauty products.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

When I first became interested in Korean beauty products and trying them I would talk to my friends in Australia and tell them how great they were using some pretty colourful language in my excitement and this is how my Instagram name was born. It describes exactly how I feel about beauty products. My user name might raise a few eyebrows but it’s actually the thing I get the most positive comments about!

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I use Lumis and Photgrid occasionally but generally I just use Instagram to edit photos.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I find @hiddenharmonyworld to be a great inspiration. Her photos are beautiful, she has such a wide range of products and she’s highly interactive with her followers.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Advanced 96 Snail mucin essence from an indie Korean brand called cosrx. It’s actually snail slime which is a huge hit in Korean cosmetics and I use it everyday and love the result!

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

My followers are like me – fascinated by beauty products and always wanting information and personal advice based on experience. I receive daily messages from users asking my advice on products and I love to be able to share what I know based on what I’ve tried personally.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Our lives are becoming saturated with advertising and it becomes easy to automatically filter out the typical marketing campaign and style of writing. I think humour and personal touch when you have a strong and unique writing voice breaks through that barrier and allows people to hear what you are saying. Having the involvement of the community you are targeting is also crucial. Some of the more successful Instagram campaigns I’ve seen have utilised soft campaigns where their new product is released to a small amount of influential bloggers who write about it before it is available which creates a strong desire for a product before it’s even launched. Providing free samples then to the general public after that stage then provides free advertising as your typical social instagram user is delighted to receive something for free and then generally writes a positive review. You then have your product displayed on a variety of unique and individual photos and written about by many individuals in many different styles.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

On instagram it’s possible to follow and view so much content in a short period of time, so unique and quality content is important as followers will quickly go elsewhere if they aren’t getting that. Original content is what I am personally seeking when I’m online as nothing turns me off faster than feeling like something is just a carbon copy.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Having the opportunity to try new products, ask questions directly from the source and then share the excitement with others!
