Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Ali Chapman @mum_in_a_nutshell

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I’m a new <fist pump> single mum to 3 boys living on the East coast of Devon. Currently over sharing as a blogger, looking after small company websites and managing their social media platforms.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I mainly post photos of my youngest son, its just a theme I’ve fallen into. Although I do stray occasionally with the odd selfie or landscape. On the other end of the scale I use Instagram to snoop on what other mums my age are wearing to get ideas.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

It’s also my blog name which was inspired from my brother’s email address. He’s a writer with an amazing catalogue of vocabulary. I’m sure he just invents some words and phrases up sometimes though.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I’m all over Photo Shop Express at the moment, although I do sometimes use Colour Story. I tend to shoot on my DSLR camera unless I get a well lit photo on my iPhone.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I love Emily Meyers (Frecked Frog) feed, its beautiful, Meg_nlo posts some stunning pics too. And closer to home, Catwalkschoolgates and doesmybumlook40 are my style lusts.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

try telling a story with your shot. I always read the write up as it really gives a sense of what’s going on in the photo.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

knowing I can inspire someone enough to want to share my story be it a place I’ve visited, a product I or my son is wearing or just having a shared connection through whatever it is that I’m writing about. I read all the comments and I think that being able to show off products in situ helps people decide if it’s for them or not. I’m much more likely to buy an outfit I’ve seen on an Instagram.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Try to use a variety of influencers, it helps if you give them an idea of the message you’re getting across and some examples.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

I think this one is a personal one really, I prefer quality images with good lighting which standout in my feed. Blurry shots are a big no no but that’s not to say others don’t like the real life, unedited shots.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Being equal partners and supporting each other’s content. If I tag a brand in, there’s nothing nicer than them recognising it with a like or re share. I’ll always try and return the likes and comments too.
