Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Ane Urquiola Lowe @TheHungryChronicles

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I was born in Mexico City and grew up in Texas. I have been in finance for the last 8+ years, and started my blog as a creative outlet–I had a creative yearning and wasn’t sure how to channel it. Since then my blog has gained traction, and I’ve been able to work with small, local businesses as well as large brands on sponsored campaigns. I’m excited to say that I’m leaving my full time job to pursue blogging and other creative projects, thanks to having started my blog!

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My topics of interest are highly centered around food and travel, as well as showcasing the most fun things to do and the best restaurants from my travels. I’ve also started to be more interested in interior design, beauty (especially as I age), and fashion.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My Instagram name came about because I’ve been chronicling the hobbies and desires that I’m hungry for: food, travel, and the nicer things in life 😉

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I love using A Color Story, I think it blows VSCO out of the water! I also love using Snapseed to do selective edits when I don’t want to change the look of the entire photo.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I love Aimee Song–both her taste in fashion and her taste in food–the girl can eat!! I’m also incredibly inspired by my friend Taylor Madison’s Instagram account, @thesimplesol. She’s a luxury travel advisor and travels to some of the most beautiful and incredible places in the world, and her Instagram photos are gorgeous.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

I’d say it’s the A Color Story editing app to edit their pictures–they have beautiful filters and so many features to take your picture from good to fantastic.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I like being able to introduce products and services that I know my audience will love and appreciate. I won’t work with a brand or company that doesn’t make sense for my brand; it’s just not worth looking like a sellout. I also love the creative process of coming up with content that fits into my everyday life.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Some tips for brands: getting free product is great, but if you’re trying to leverage an influencer’s community then essentially they’re advertising for you and request for compensation shouldn’t be a surprise. Also, don’t overlook influencers with smaller audiences–sometimes they have hyper-engaged followers that may be more receptive to products and services than an influencer with a much bigger following. I try to maintain authenticity by making sure I accept to work with brands that have products and services that I would use anyway if I didn’t have an audience to share with.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

If you don’t produce quality work, it will reflect poorly on you and your brand; people can see through that and it will affect the opportunities that get presented to you. As far as original content goes, I think i’ts crucial to make sure all the content you produce is your own. Sure, it’s normal to be inspired by the work other people have done, but if you lift someone else’s work eventually you will be caught, and other than losing a good reputation there can be more serious financial repercussions that are just not worth it.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

I love the creative experience of it–being able to show a product or service in a new light is very exciting. I also believe in reciprocity so being able to work with other brands is great because I know that I’m helping a brand that I believe in getting their name out to people that know, like, and trust me.
