We were lucky enough to see the sidecars taking to the Mountain Course for tyre testing at the @ManxGrandPrix this year. Following the loss of the main tyre provider, Avon, the sidecar teams needed a replacement tyre that would stand up to the test of the Mountain Course. Hoosier has been the tyre manufacturer to step up to the challenge and the Birchall Brothers, the Crowe Brothers, Tim Reeves and Dave Molyneux tested some prototypes. Ben Birchall explained to us what a sidecar tyre needs to be effective at the TT and other road races, including sufficient grip, but not too much, strength to hold up to high G-force and, owing to the nature of the tyres which grow as they run, the body work of the outfit needs to be able to safely accommodate that.
