This Saturday September 23rd, from 1-5p, we welcome you to join Mary McFerran as she gives tours of her curated show “Hand to Work”, which features the work of five textile artists. The show celebrates the compelling qualities of fiber as an artistic medium. Cloth carries histories and has the ability to enter through our skin as much as our eyes. Sewing and weaving connect us to the long tradition of women’s handwork. Gallery Hours: Saturday and Sunday noon - 6p 506 Main Street Beacon NY Pictured: Lisa Lackey, ‘Theme Scheme’, mixed media fiber. @lisalackeyartist #fiberart #textileart #fiberexhibition
This time lapse video shows the process of Eileen Sackman as she sculpts the hand of a chimpanzee. Working from multiple detailed images, she forms the clay into its shape. Then, the form stiffens over a few days until it is at a consistency that is able to be carved. The carving process for this sculpture occurred over a two week period. Once the entire form is complete and detailed the piece was set aside to dry for almost a month before heading into the initial bisque firing. Sackman wood fires all her pieces. Eileen Sackman’s exhibition “Resurgence” is on view until October 8th. @eileensackman #ceramics #woodfired

Join us this Saturday, September 9th 6-8p, for the opening of Eileen Sackman’s solo show “Resurgence”. Ceramic portraiture has been utilized throughout history to document events and to memorialize the sitter. These portraits call attention to threatened and endangered animals, encapsulating their expressive nature through emotional representation. It is critical to bring awareness to species that have been brought to the brink of extinction due to human interference and have been forever impacted by these interactions. Resurgence inspires empathy in the viewer while instilling an urgency for one to take action. Eileen Sackman is a ceramic artist from the Hudson Valley. She teaches at Monmouth University, as well as The Art School at Old Church. Her work is currently featured at Charlie Cummings Gallery in Gainesville, Florida. Drawing attention to the devastating effects of climate change, Sackman’s work focuses on endangered wildlife. “Resurgence” will be on view until October 8th. Gallery Hours: Saturday and Sunday noon - 6pm 506 Main Street Beacon NY Pictured: Elephant, wood fired stoneware. @eileensackman #woodfiredceramics #ceramic #endangeredspecies
Thank you to all the artists from our annual juried show. BAU Gallery is pleased to announce the first prize winner: Meg Beaudoin. Beaudoin is a wood fired ceramic artist. Her work is inspired by the natural world and the human body. “I do not conceive of my work as an act of self expression but rather as an act of world expression. Making, firing, touching and beholding connects me to the world and so forms a bridge between inside and outside.” Meg Beaudoin will have a solo exhibition at the gallery in 2024. @megbeaudoinceramics #woodfired #ceramics #womenwhowoodfire
