You may have heard that the incredible @whynottheatreto are bringing an epic adaptation of the Mahabharata to our theatre next week, but did you know that the movement and dance elements in the production are essential to its storytelling? 🤩 In this week's #SundaySpotlight, we're taking a moment to appreciate Brandy Leary's fantastic choreography that helps to bring this once-in-a-generation theatrical experience to life ✨ 'We absolutely had to go to the original way that it was told, which was through dance in the temples,' says Ravi, the show's Co-writer, Adaptor and Director. Join @julianknxx to walk through his new exhibition at @barbicancentre. @180.studios resident artist and poet Julianknxx’s first institutional solo exhibition “Chorus in Rememory of Flight” will be running for six months at the Barbican Curve till 11 Feb 2024. In this episode, we explored the significance of ‘chorus’ for Julian. As he beautifully articulates, “Black people across the world are singing the same song.” To him, it’s a therapeutic harmonisation, where individual voices blend seamlessly into a collective melody. When one lacks, the others step in, carrying them through the journey. During the past two years, Julian took his camera around the European continent, filming people sing, dance, recite poetry – or refuse to do anything but sleep. How can art be used as an important tool to deal with loss and pain? 🎭 We had #CateBlanchett in the building for an important talk with Artistic Director of @bfreetheatre, Natalia Kaliada to discuss the impact of war and dictatorship on the children of Ukraine and Belarus, and launch their latest campaign #LettersForHope. 💌 They were joined by Oksana Lebedeva founder of Gen.Ukrainian, a charitable foundation working with children who’ve been exposed to the horrors of the war to overcome psychological trauma. And Helena Niedźwiecka, founder of the Belarusian Solidarity Centre, a charity supporting exiled Belarusians and Ukrainians as they begin to rebuild their lives in Poland, with a particular focus on children and young people. On this #DayOfPeace we want to spare a moment for all the children of Ukraine and Belarus. ✨
