Partnering with businesses! We held a gathering called "LVMPD's Valley Wide Safe Village Business Coalition Conference" here at headquarters on Tuesday. The purpose of this conference was to bring together business owners and managers to promote a partnership and to discuss crime prevention strategies. Additionally, we wanted to introduce them to the police captain of the area where their businesses are located! Sheriff Kevin McMahill was also in attendance! Attendees included convenience store owners, managers, and smoke shop owners. All attendees were invited by Amar Chadha who is a member of MMAC (Metro Multicultural Advisory Council) and a wonderful community partner. Thanks for coming and let us work together to protect the community!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SHAY! We want to wish LVMPD Ofc. Shay Mikalonis a happy 33rd birthday today. 😍 Here are some great photos of when the Stanley Cup paid him a special visit last week. 💙 Sheriff Kevin McMahill and Undersheriff Andy Walsh were also on hand to visit with Shay. We are grateful to the NHL and especially the @vegasgoldenknights for this incredible honor and for thinking of Shay since the 2020 shooting that changed his life forever.

Arrest made in the hit-and-run homicide of bicyclist. At a news conference on Sept. 19, Sheriff Kevin McMahill announced LVMPD has made a second arrest in the killing of Andreas Probst. Both juveniles are now facing open murder charges in the criminal justice system. Detectives are currently reviewing other cases and have determined that these individuals were also involved in an additional hit-and-run of a bicyclist prior to killing Probst. Bonneville Ave. This is tentatively scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. There will be a noticeable police presence including emergency vehicles and simulated gunfire. BIG HONOR~ LVMPD Crime Analyst Alexia Alley, won first place in the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA), Statistical Analytical product contest, for her Annual Homicide Analysis. The IACA is an international association, representing more than 80 countries, and 8,000 members, including Crime Analysts, Intelligence Analysts, and Police Officers. To receive an award, especially first place, in a highly competitive contest is an extreme accomplishment! Alexia worked tirelessly on this analysis; her hard work and dedication paid off! Her award not only shows her dedication but also shows the caliber of work the Crime Analysts of our Central Intelligence Unit Research and Analysis (CIURA) are doing daily.

We celebrated our vibrant Hispanic heritage at "El Grito" celebrating Mexican Independence. We are grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make this event a success. This afternoon, Sheriff Kevin McMahill recognized 35 officers and community members for their great work. Oftentimes, patrol officers arrive long before paramedics can get to a scene. Some of the awards today included officers saving multiple people by using tourniquets, techniques, and training developed and funded by the Engelstad Foundation and Touro University Nevada. Multiple community partners from @touronevada and the Engelstad Foundation also received certificates of appreciation! Ofc. Brayden McMahill, Officer McKenna Morrison, and multiple @lvmpddispatch professionals received awards for their handling of a violent domestic dispute as well! Congratulations to all for your absolutely outstanding work and for protecting our community.

Traffic Safety Summit 2023 Award Winners! Our @lvmpdtraffic works hard every day to keep you safe on the roads. This morning at the Nevada Traffic Safety Summit 2023 event, two of our folks were recognized for their outstanding work. Officer Mike Thiele received the Impact Award for his efforts for our Intervention Program which contacts repeat offenders of DUI and offers resources. The program has greatly reduced the number of people reoffending. Sergeant Paul McCullough has investigated nearly 800 serious injury or fatal crashes during his time in our Fatal Detail. He has been with LVMPD since 1997 and recently announced his pending retirement. He was honored with the Legacy Award to acknowledge his years of service and his work within the traffic safety community. Congratulations gentlemen for your outstanding work!
