If I could, I would happily forget the time I was poisoned me with Rum then placated with custom Pedals (And NO... I didnt shit myself, just puked out our velux window). There’s no Dual like a snow Dual. Despite inevitable trepidation and reluctance, we braved the conditions and the results were spectacular. The Mayors Dual track at Parkwood turned out to be the perfect location to battle out the penultimate round of the winter series. The snow gave way to rock, the grip came and went, and bars rubbed together… in a friendly way. The finals were fierce with Timmy and Dave G batting it out for first losers and Tim doubling up the last rollers to run it in. Big finals saw Chris P taking on 2nd timer Ben Thomson in a nail biter, with only 0.28 seconds putting Chris on the top step. We trailed a new race format inspired by the football World Cup with a group stage before knock outs. With a few wrinkles ironed out we’ll now all get more races against more people. Ok the mornings are lighter, we can get dressed up and explode fireworks, but theres something really depressing about coming home from work in the dark. However, there is one distinct advantage to this annual event. It means its time to sharpen out elbows, charge some lights and let as much pressure as you dare out of tyres. Dual Season is upon us. This weeks opener brought the gang back together at our first ever race venue, Endcliffe Park. Sheltered below the trees, we set the posts in the ground, lit the course up with bike lights and started to figure out lines. With the earlier deluge, IT WAS SLIPPY! However, lines cut in and at least it got slightly more predictable. With a lovely mix of seasoned Dualists, Scot’s immigrants and new blood, practice gave way to racing and the whistle came out. With our beloved timing queen, @steph.skates , (Congratulations!!!) now occupying her evenings with her beautiful Baby, stop watch duties were shared about. Ultimately is was two time overall champ Tim Pearson who took the win on the night in the big final over a jubilant Chris Lansley. Nick Woof got the crash of the night around the penultimate gate and just in front of a crowd of kind and understanding well wishers. Hannah Saville threw away a third place against Wes Fife in the same corner, letting the pressure (or lack of it) get to her. It was so good to get the season rolling and get back to sliding sideways again. Round 9 of the Winter Dual series was @baybutt’s birthday dual at Bolehills. Celebrating with Rum, a podium for Rich and elbow to elbow racing on a new track with the best view in Sheffield…. Stannington??? The racing was as competitive as ever, rewarding death grips and committed riding. A vague chink in @willswinden’s armour showed as he lost his front wheel on a dirty right and made the earth quake with his head. Uncharacteristic and rewarded with a too loud cheer… thankfully he was fine and came back angry and even faster. @sam_turtle9 was on hand with his camera to capture the action. Cheers lad! Round 10 of Winter Dual was a hot, slick, mess. Perfect! The off camber greasy corners caused all kinds of trouble and upsets, basically the ideal course. Mixing up unsupportive, off camber grass turns with splashes of tarmac to spice things up (and seek out @pedalspanner’s knees… again). Reining champ and dual legend @willswinden was displaced for the first time this season by a determined @creep_pea, who’s physicality left Will surprised (moaning) and out in the quarters. @baybutt on his @coticbikes-@pinkbike channeled rage to come out on just short of the podium, putting him closer in the quesadilla champs but @bearlegged slipped in to 3rd by 0.08seconds. It was Tim @splatshop Pearson who’s form peaked at just the right moment to take the win in a no love lost battle of brothers, making him not the shit Pearson for a lovely change. Big up @jackandthefam for snapping the moments 🤘🙏.
