Happy Friday Jr guys! As you know we have been giving our home a refresh and I wanted to share probably my favorite one, our bedroom. This is one I’ve dreamed about for a while and knew exactly what I wanted to do. It was all about finishing off our furniture and attempting to make it look like we actually had a set for the space without breaking the budget. It all started when I stumbled across this vintage bed for FREE on marketplace. The lady was so sweet, she said she had been gifted it more than 20 years ago for her wedding and wanted it to go to a good home. And after not having a headboard since high school, I assured her it would be very loved. She also gave me the most beautiful bench that I reupholstered. It adds the coziest touch to the foot of our bed! Next I needed to do something about these end tables. I’ve also never had a matching set and had been dreaming of finding wood ones for sometime. But as I’m working on a budget I decided to refinish two we already had. I stripped them (which was an absolute nightmare, I do not recommend 😂) and stained them in early American. And even though they aren’t perfect I absolutely love how they look in this space! And lastly was the decor. I snagged these floral sheets from @zara to add a pop. I also knew I wanted a matching set of lamps and my husband magically pulled these out of our garage just as I was thinking about getting some. I have no idea how I forgot about these brass beauties, they were gifted to me from my mom and step dad and are a family heirloom which makes them even more special. Now to find the perfect pair of vintage lamp shades and the space will be complete! For almost nothing I was able to completely transform this space. Just took a little extra elbow grease haha! Happy Sunday! How is it already July? We have been busy bees over here with our DIY projects. I’ve been sharing lots in stories but I wanted to catch everyone up, so if you missed it we not only got a vintage sofa but we also dyed it! It all started out when I was scrolling Facebook marketplace and stumbled upon this floral beauty for FREE! So of course I couldn’t pass it up. But once I got it home I realized how much yellow was in the fabric and even though I liked it, it was definitely clashing with the rest of our home. So I got the crazy idea to dye it in an attempt to tone down the colors. It was absolutely a trust the process thing. Halfway through I thought I may have made a mistake but as the first coat dried I knew it was going to work. I used Rit dye in the taupe color, mixing 1/2 cup of the dye with 24oz of water. I had to make 3 batches total for the couch. I then used a paintbrush and simply brushed stain onto the fabric. I allowed it to dry and applied 2 more coats. This method worked amazing for our sofa but I would do a test spot before trying this on other fabrics. I just had to share the transformation along with the new coffee table and end table we added to the space. I’m on a mission to make our home feel more vintage and I’m loving how it’s coming along. I am sooo excited to feature the start of our outdoor play space, it’s the 6-in-1 jungle gym from @avenlurkids Ollie definitely has some time to go grow it but I love that it’s small enough for little ones but still has plenty to keep the older kids busy as well. And my favorite part is that it’s indoor/outdoor so we can bring it into the playroom this winter and he will have something to keep him active throughout the colder months. We have a little fence coming as well as some other fun toys so I’ll be sharing more as a put the space together soon. But this piece was definitely the perfect start.
