Conversations with Artists - Virtual Sac Open Studios Series July 23 - Sept 1st Conversations with Artists is a virtual interview series to complement and promote the in-person studio tour. During this series, which is free to the public, regional art professionals interview Sac Open Studios artists about their artwork, inspirations, processes, and more. New event this week at @vergeart ! July 22 at 6pm Making Art in the Golden State is a documentary series that spotlights California-based career artists from a diverse range of backgrounds and disciplines. Join us for the premiere of Verge’s original documentary series: About the Artist: Making Art in the Golden State. Verge will screen an episode featuring Sacramento-based artist, Manuel Fernando Rios. In this episode, Rios talks about the importance of mentorship, how he explores his Chicano identity and stereotypes in his artwork, the symbols and compositional elements he employs in his paintings to tell visual narratives, and more. We will also be screening this documentary online, on Zoom, to coincide with the in-person screening. The online screening will begin at 7 pm. Discovery Play is a free program for children with any special needs at Sacramento Children’s Museum. The Museum serves children ages birth to 8, but all ages are welcome to Discovery Play. NEw Exhibit alert at the Locke Boarding House! LOCKE - FROM ITS FOUNDING TO WWII. This fascinating exhibit offers a glimpse into the daily lives of the early Chinese residents and merchants of Locke. On display is an extensive collection of pre-war clothing, household items, tools, musical instruments, traditional Chinese medicines, informational placards and more. Artifacts are augmented with detailed signage and some are interactive. Over the years the Locke Foundation has amassed a large collection of donated and on-loan artifacts and materials never before seen by the public. Have you checked out the new short-term exhibit at @thecamuseum?! “Fight for the Right: 100 Years of Women Voting” On view through August 29, 2021 Featuring artifacts, historic photographs and interactive activities, this temporary exhibition chronicles women’s struggle for the right to the vote from the mid-19th century to the ratification of the 19th Amendment on Aug. 26, 1920, drawing parallels to the ongoing fight for women’s equality that continues today. Developed by the California Museum in collaboration with First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, who served as California’s representative on the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission, the installation opened on Aug. 20, 2020, in recognition of the 19th Amendment’s centennial.
