@robelighting was in action across multiple stages at the 2023 Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, including in three key ‘creative’ areas of the massive site at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset in the UK. These were the spectacular fire-breathing Arcadia Spider 360-degree arena, the eclectic, fabulous and funky Park Stage, one of the most popular Glasto zones, and the BBC Introducing stage which showcases some of the hottest rising music stars and some cool unique pop-up performances. PRO3 was started as an innovative lighting and visual design studio full of fresh ideas and approaches sparked by the imaginative synergy between three partners and lighting enthusiasts based in the vibrant cultural melting pot of Mexico City. The company is still growing and is now also a significant lighting rental equipment supplier for the numerous shows, tours and events in which they are creatively involved. @pro3lighting first invested in @robelighting products around seven years ago, starting with Pointes, then expanding to MegaPointes and Spiiders. Their most recent purchases are 50 x #FORTE luminaires, 30 of which have been delivered by Mexican distributor @showcosapidecv with 20 more on their way. “As soon as the industry re-started after the pandemic, FORTE fixtures started being frequently requested on riders,” stated Osvaldo “Chico” Giuliano, “and since then the demand for them has gone through the roof, so it was vital that we have them in stock!” “It’s a big beautiful and powerful light and we wanted them for our larger projects,” he enthused. The live finals of American Idol 2023 moved to a new venue – Red Studios Hollywood – giving lighting designer Tom Sutherland @tsuth88 of @dx7design and production designer @florian_wieder the chance to create a fresh and exciting new look in this special space, which has embraced history and innovation in film and TV production since the early 20th century. Tom included plenty of @robelighting on his lighting plot, including 137 x #MegaPointe luminaires, about which he states, “I would not do a show without MegaPointes”. These were joined by 104 x #Tetra2 luminaires, another fixture that Tom loves for creating specific looks and effects. He also used 49 x #Spiider luminaires, a highly practical luminaire with outstanding color mixing that he frequently specifies, together with #BMFL Blade Follow Spots. All the series lighting was programmed and operated by Bobby Gray and Harry Forster, who worked on the first and second halves of the season respectively. White lights were controlled by Nate Files, the series director was Phil Heyes and the executive producers were Matt Banks and Megan Wolflick. Lighting equipment was supplied by Felix Lighting with all things co-ordinated and managed by account handler, Nicole Barnes, another colleague with whom Tom enjoys working and has an excellent rapport. @robelighting has appointed a new Egyptian distributor – Impact Egypt Solutions – which is headed by Jean William, a prolific and talented lighting and show designer in his own right. The company is based in the bustling metropolis of Cairo and is one of the oldest and best respected entertainment technology enterprises in the country. Jean founded Impact Egypt 33 years ago initially as a rental and a sales business. Sales were then halted for a while as they focussed on installation projects and rentals, but recently sales have re-started to capitalise on a strong and developing market with a demand for quality equipment. He and Robe’s Middle East regional sales manager, Elie Battah, met at ISE in Barcelona earlier this year and discussed Robe’s repositioning in the region. “I was looking for someone with a great reputation and who was enthusiastic and invested in the brand,” noted Elie. “I’ve known Jean for some time, and the time is now right for us to collaborate. The @robelighting UK team report a busy, successful, and very positive @theabtt expo staged at Alexandra Palace in London, UK. The company had two exhibition areas, with a stand upstairs in the main hall and a large demo area downstairs in the Palace suite – both showcasing a range of its latest lighting technologies for theatre, performance, TV, and broadcast scenarios. The stylish booth occupied a great location in the main exhibition hall and featured a selection of the newest Robe, @anolislighting and @mdgfog products. Downstairs from the main exhibition showfloor and running in parallel, Robe ran a black box demonstration area where more fixtures could be shown ‘in situ’, which was a perfect environment for those wanting to engage in more techie conversations and get hands on with some of the products.
