If you’ve been following us, most of our trips are usually filled with lots of hikes and site seeing. We don’t do much cooking, chilling around camp, and relaxing. Scott and I love our fast pace style but sometimes the kids just want to dig, swing in hammocks, and hang out with friends. So this weekend was planned around what they love to do. We stayed in one spot and just chilled. We did end up settling in a pretty amazing spot though. Fun things to do around camp: •Hammocks •Build Nature Fairy Gardens •Kubb •Fishing Poles •Glow Sticks •Sling shots •Nature Walks •3 Color Challenge: Everyone attempts to color/draw/paint the same exact scene,but you have to randomly choose 3 colors. After years of adventure El Gato Gordo is officially sold. Swipe to see the new lucky family!➡️➡️👩‍👦‍👦👨‍👦 I would be lying if I said I didn’t shed some tears saying good bye, but the new family has already sent us pictures of them taking it out exploring the past 2 weekends so I think it ended up with the right family! We actually ended up making the additional kids bed that goes on the seat so now it can seat 5 and sleep 5! Now onto figuring out what our new adventure vehicle will be! We have a lot of new ideas on what’s next! Here comes the fun part! 🛠🪚🧰 🎉

Camper Van Dinette, Bed, & Storage Build In the back there is a dinette that can comfortably sit 4-6 people to eat and play games. This has been amazing for foul weather days and for home schooling. It’s great to have a dedicated place to do things like that. The table is mounted to a Lagun table mount which swivels with ease and allows you to put the table in any position that you may need. When it’s time to go to sleep the table easily removes and is put in place to allow the dinette to become a bed. The bed area is 52” wide by 70” in length. Underneath the dinette there is a 48” drawer that pulls out the back and swallows a lot of gear. Each dinette bench has storage underneath it. The passenger side holds three 6-gallon water containers with room for much more. The driver’s side bench is split in two with one area for bedding storage and the other area holding all the batteries and electrical components. This has been our signature concept for our builds. It’s a part that will definitely be in our next van and all future builds we sell as well!

The Van Galley Here you have a 60” countertop with a small bar sink🚰. The countertop is made of 1/2” baltic birch plywood with Formica laminate on top. We chose Earthenware because it reminded us of the South West 🏜❤️ Underneath we have a Vitrifrigo 115 liter Stainless Steel fridge. This fridge has been awesome and holds a ton of food and has a good size freezer. 🧊We never had an issue with keeping things cold or frozen as the temperatures outside hovered around 100 degrees. However, Scotts favorite thing about the fridge is that it has a stainless steel handle. Which is hard to find on these style fridges. Which means it’s durable! Flanking the fridge are two vertical rows of drawers with bottom cabinets. These have been great to store everything needed in the kitchen, like our Instant Pot and induction cooktop. The lowest cabinet under the sink holds the gray water tank and a cassette toilet.🚽 The drawers are different sizes to accommodate canned goods, plastic wrap, mugs, plates. The sizing all has a purpose and function which worked amazingly! We had a place for everything and everything in its place. There are overhead cabinets throughout the van that add an amazing amount of storage. Each one is lockable with a southco stainless steel latch. Again these were each designed to hold tall cereal boxes to smaller shelves that are the perfect size for spices. They also have struts that hold them open. Underneath the cabinets in the kitchen and dinette area there are LED light strips that are dimmable and add just the right amount of light for any ambiance you desire. 💡💛 This part of the van took all my camping stress away. I kept it stocked so when I wanted to go camping all I had to do was add a few perishables and I was good to go! Hardly any packing!! Yes hardly any packing! It was always packed to adventure!❤️

After months of deliberation we have come to the conclusion that we’re going to sell our Adventure Van. It wasn’t an easy decision as we LOVE this thing. Sooo much thought went into it on how to fit a family of 4 for full travel. It really is the perfect van for a family! (in our opinion 😉 )The next couple of days I’ll be doing post describing all our favorite parts of the build, but we’ll start with the most unique and the kids favorite! THE BUNK BEDS The layout spawned from a lot of late night tape measure sessions trying to figure out how to allow everyone to sleep comfortably and have some personal space. What we came up with is a set of bunk beds that run down the driver’s side. Each bed is a full 72” and the bottom one is 23” wide while the top bunk is 21” wide. They have storage at their feet which can be removed as the kids grow to utilize the full length mattress. (I can fit in it!) Each bunk also has it’s own dual USB outlet to charge iPads and power a personal fan. There are sliding curtains made from a fleece Pendleton blanket. The kids loved to whip these closed in our fast with some sass. They also each have LED light strips that are remote controlled and can change to any color in the rainbow 🌈! This was Case’s favorite! Underneath the bottom bunk there are large drawers for storage. Each kid had their own drawer that held ALL their clothes and their homeschooling supplies. The bottom row was for food, and the small drawer we called our game drawer where it was packed full of fun games! We’re gonna miss these bunks! Silver Lake Flat is a place we’ve been hanging out a lot this summer. It’s only about 30 minutes up the canyon from our house! I always want to head south to the red rock area of Utah 🏜, because I forget how amazing the area around me is. I really don’t think I could move away from the mountains. I just love them too much! 🏔 ❤️ 🏔Silver lake Flat is perfect for fishing, SUPS, kayaking, hiking or just chilling on the shore while admiring Mt. Timpanogas right in front of you. The hike is about 4 miles round trip. We haven’t done it yet but next time we go we’ll let you know about it! 🗺 Once at Tibble Fork take the paved road headed north. You'll know your on the right road as it winds up high in the canyon with several switch backs. Green River Overlook This is probably my favorite view point in Canyonlands NP and it’s best photographed at sunset! Here are some tips we’ve learned over the years that might help you as well! 🔹Clean Your Lens. (I’ve forgotten this step so many times.) 🔸Use a Tripod for sharper images as the sun starts to sink on the horizon. 🔹Use a remote or set a timer to reduce shake after you hit the shutter button. 🔸Shoot Wide (then zoom in) 🔹Shoot RAW 🔸Put Your Camera in Aperture Priority Mode. 🔹Set the Aperture to a Large Number. 🔸Keep the ISO Low. 🔹Shoot at a variety of focal lengths. 🔸Try out Bracketing. That way, you’d end up with a “standard” shot, a darker shot, and a brighter shot, all of which will give you different colors and effects. We beat our record! Last year the kids hiked 11 miles, this year they just accomplished a 13 mile trail with 2900 ft elevation gain! We hiked for 8.5 hours straight. 😳 I am BEYOND impressed, and just sooo proud of them! Not only did they beat their record, I beat mine! I’ve never hiked that far in 1 day either! After I told them that you should have seen their smiles! 🥳 CHESLER PARK TO DRUID ARCH Canyonlands NP: Needles District Hiking among the sharp pinnacles of rock to this unique arch will transport you to a different world, one composed almost entirely of gorgeous red rocks and full of stunningly strange vistas. Trail conditions out here are primitive and water is often non-existent, so be prepared for a hiking adventure unlike any other! 🔸💦 Bring at least 2 liters of water per person on a hot day. 🔹LOCATION: From the Needles visitor center, travel toward the Sqaw Flat Campground. Follow the signs to Elephant hill and drive 3 miles along the dirt road to access the trailhead. 🔸This “trail” mainly over slickrock, meaning that often there is not a defined and obvious route. Much of the journey will require some route finding via cairns that have been strategically placed. As well as lots of scrambling up and down the entire trail. However, This keeps the kids attention on their surroundings instead of their achy feet because they’re constantly climbing up and down and searching for the next cairns, 🔹There are a few slot canyons along that way and the views are phenomenal as you emerge and continue along the trail. Pinnacles of rock jut sharply out of the ground in every direction, with some of the most unique rock formations towering overhead. 🔸You can create your own trail which is what we did instead of hiking the full 17 miles we cut it to 13. CANYONLANDS We explored Island in the Sky and The Needles District a few weeks back and it didn’t disappoint! This is the beautiful MESA ARCH in Island in the Sky District. A simple .5 mile round trip to see. For this Sunrise view you have to hike in the dark and set up shop an hour before the sun comes up or you won’t get a good spot to photograph it. 📸 Click click click Whoa… click click click Wow 📸 is all you hear when the sun burst hits the horizon. You’re definitely not alone but it’s still gorgeous none the less. We got this shot surrounded by a 100 other photographers but it was fun to see how everyone takes their shot. I’m pretty happy with mine.
