• POP! • For the past 20 years Maurizio Savini has used a surprising medium for his bright pink sculptures: bubble gum! In a labour-intensive process, Maurizio unwraps the gum and uses heat to apply the pieces to plaster mould. He then preserves his creations, sometimes made of nearly 3000 pieces of gum, with a mixture of formaldehyde and antibiotics. • Hiding in plain sight • Etel Adnan's work seems to consist of geometric planes, but where the lines meet, you can see a landscape emerging. Her love for the outdoors shines through in her creations: she sketches mountains, rivers, trees and a rich horizon in which man is always absent. Above all, they reflect her desire for an intense connection with the world and a symbiosis between man and nature. • Breast berries • If you look closely, you'll see that these redcurrants appear to have nipples! In fact, they're not berries at all, but breasts. Maria Roosen's oeuvre touches on themes of femininity, masculinity and sexuality. You can see this reflected in 'Rose Bud': he zooms in shows the flowers up close, cutting off their image, while also using a stripped-down color palette. • In the Woods • If you think this miniature theatre is reminiscent of Joseph Cornell's boxes, you're spot on! Though this particular work was crafted by Yayoi Kusama - note her characteristic net pattern on the exterior - possibly as a tribute to Cornell; the two had a romantic relationship.
