"Bookmark" is a collection of items found in returned library books that recently went viral on TikTok. The majority of this collection was gifted to MassArt SIM alum Ali Beaudette '20 ( @alibeaudette ) from a coworker at the Charlton Public Library in Massachusetts. The expansive collection was saved over the course of 20+ years, kept alive by the team working at the library. Since being gifted to Ali, she has continued to add to it during her time at other public libraries across New England. November will mark her 11th year anniversary as a library worker. Animation major Kate Costello ‘20 started making her thesis animation film ‘Housecat’ at MassArt right before Covid-19 hit, disrupting her final project and her senior year. Now, as of October 2021, the short film is finally finished and is well worth the wait. From Kate: “[Housecat] was a pretty ambitious project from the start, but I was on-track to finish it...until the pandemic hit. Over the following year, I chipped away at what was left to be completed. My tastes and interests changed; little things like line weight, how I chose to color things, and shading techniques. I fought so many urges to just change style mid-film! The film (and me) went through so many changes, but I’m so glad it’s finally done and I can share it with you. The characters, backgrounds, and events of the film are loosely based on my apartment & roommates during my time in Boston at MassArt. In many ways, this film to me became a little time-capsule of my best times at that apartment (in cat form).” To watch the film in its entirety, follow the link below or visit Kate’s profile: https://lnkd.in/d6ADQfth @kateco___ #MassArtAlumni #MassArtAnimation
Molly Lastra ‘13 assists with a mural by the renowned artist Shepard Fairey in Rock Hill, South Carolina! Molly received her BFA in painting from MassArt in 2013 and has been creating full time ever since. From Molly: “This mural was an amazing opportunity to work alongside Shepard Fairey right here in Rock Hill, where his parents live and where he spent much of his childhood. The mural was made over several days and primarily used a somewhat meticulous stencil and spray paint process. Shepard is generous, kind, and a huge advocate of the arts, equality, and environmental protections. It was an honor to get to work with him!” #MassArtPainting #MassartAlumni #ShepardFairey

⚠️flash warning⚠️ Animation alum Johnny Chew ( @johnny_chew )graduated with honors from Massachusetts College of Art and Design's Animation Program where he was trained in 2D hand drawn animation, which he then "...quickly stopped doing because it takes so long and focused more on mixed media work." After graduating he was asked to teach at MassArt before moving to Los Angeles. From Johnny: "My time at MassArt gave me the courage to pursue the art that I wanted to make, and not compromise my ideals or visions. When working I like to push artistic boundaries and I feel very blessed to be able to do what I love for a living. MassArt helped me rise to where I am today professionally." #MassArtAlumni #MassArtAnimation

“They say Boston is a student town. Two such people pose on a scooter for a shot in front of the old Boston State on Huntington Ave at Longwood. Boston State was folded into the UMass system in the early 80s. Today that property houses Massachusetts College of Art.” Repost from @dirtyoldboston #MassArt #MassArtHistory
