Thank you for following! I just hit a milestone of 3000 followers and I couldn't be more grateful. If you have a moment, please allow me to share what I have learned in the past 5 years of running my own construction business; 1) Communication is key. Answer every phone call whenever possible and e-mail back within 24 hours. That first interaction will set how people feel about you and your service. 2) Set expectations from the beginning and don't over promise. Stay within your means and stick to what you're good at. 3) Set realistic timelines. Juggling jobs takes years of practice and more importantly, a good team. Most people will notice flaws and a lack a service before good workmanship. 4) Confirm all deliveries. People make mistakes and suppliers can run into issues. Have a plan B and C. 5) Buy quality and the correct tools for the job in order to work safely and efficiently. 6) You don't need a fancy new truck. A clean and well maintained vehicle holds the same amount of tools. 7) Value your employees. It is very difficult to find good help unless you're prepared to train. 8) Pick your battles. A smile and nod goes a long way. However, there is a limit if you're being disrespected. 9) Be kind to all trades and always think of the next guy after you. You never know where your next referral will come from. 10) Take pride in your work. Give the builder or client a reason to hire you back. No one and I mean NO ONE cares how fast you can complete a job. Have some more advice? I'd love to hear it!

Proud and honored to be featured in Construction Clock's very first YouTube short: "Against the Clock". Extreme weather, inter-provincial travel restrictions, and the ultimate villain in any construction project - time. This is my story! Thank you for watching. @constructionclockapp @primefastenerswpg

Welcome! If you're new to my page, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Justin and I'm 35 years old. I've lived in Manitoba, Canada my whole life and I am currently going on 18 years of construction experience. I am the owner of Justin Smith Construction LTD. and we have started our 5th year in business. We specialize in custom residential framing, structural renovations and high end decks. If you've got a minute, here's a quick overview of what made me who I am today. I started doing artistic gymnastics at the age of 3 and by 14 years old, I was already training 28 hours a week. In my final year of competitive gymnastics, I was 1 of 2 athletes to join the Canadian Junior National Team and was on track to compete at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Unfortunately due to injuries, I made the difficult decision to retire at the young age of 17. After graduating high school in 2005, I started working for my father framing custom homes. I soon after started my apprenticeship in carpentry at @redrivercollege. My father and I got along very well and seldom disagreed. I worked with him for 13 solid years before he retired at the age of 60. During that time, we strictly framed for custom builders and high end clients. This experience provided me with an excellent foundation to run a successful business. My wife @kathryn_white and I have been married since 2014 and we just recently had our first kid in January. We met in 2009 when I joined the Manitoba Bison Cheer Team. In our final year of cheerleading, we had the opportunity to compete at the Cheerleading Worlds in Disney World. Now we love to hike and workout together. We have built several homes for ourselves over the years and have (probably) settled into our forever home in Headingley, Manitoba. At J. Smith Construction, we always strive for quality before anything else as well as finding new ways to be efficient. We also love learning new and innovative building methods while working with the best products on the market. I wouldn't be where I am today without my team and many others who have supported me along the way. Thank you for reading. Stay safe, build on!

The perfect addition with the perfect view. Thanks to @grindstonerenos for having me be part of this amazing project. Best part? We got to stay on site in the guest cottage during the duration of the project, just several steps away. Here's a quick run-down of our scope of work: - Removed and salvaged entire deck structure, decking and railings - Frame and screen in lower deck - Frame addition and stick frame roof - Demo structural wall and install steel beam - Install Rain Escape by Trex - Install composite deck boards - Install aluminum rails - Build new stairs - Remove existing windows and cut in new ones - Install new windows for the addition

Deck #4 of 2023. A combination of glass and picket railings, a sunken hot tub and we can't forget about the 6x6 post where the dunk bucket will eventually hang. Builder: @330developmentandconstruction

From demo to finishing, we do it all. Timbers and pine supplied by @cornerstonetimberframes, this little addition will make for a great office for my lil' bro, @joelsmith7 Thanks to @amcfoam for supplying the Chrome GPS foam. This roof system is becoming very common and is definitely my preferred method for a well insulated and comfortable space.
