This is the Átl’ka7tsem/Howe Sound Biosphere Region, an area that is a part of the @unesco (United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) Biosphere Regions. These areas hold a global ecological significance, bringing communities together towards a common purpose and inspiring people to find sustainable ways to live, work, and recreate in harmony with nature. Átl’ka7tsem is home to an expansive and biodiverse ecosystem with over 721 native animals that live on land. Beneath the water, there are a vast array of species including glass sponge reefs, thought to be extinct 40 million years ago. Surrounding these wildlife are 2-million-year-old volcanoes and ancient glaciers, all important to sustaining the lifeforms on these lands. To learn more about this region, as well as BC’s other two biosphere regions, head to @howesoundbiosphere @mtarrowsmithbr @clayoquotbiospheretrust 🌎 #exploreBC #EarthDay #earthday2023

As the days get warmer it's important to remain alert and take care of the environments around us. Wherever your activities take you this weekend, make sure you take the necessary protocols to prevent and report wildfires. ⁣ ⁣ As conditions can change quickly, we encourage visitors to always check the latest, official, on-the-ground information to make informed travel decisions before and during their trip, and urge everyone to respect area restrictions/evacuations in place to help support fire suppression efforts. ⁣ ⁣ Report a wildfire by dialing *5555 on a cellphone or calling toll-free: 1-800-663-5555⁣. To find out the latest wildfire information, check Drive BC for road closures, the BC Wildfire Service for an interactive map, and Emergency Info BC for alerts.⁣
