Our Nano Nagle Learning Centre (NNLC) received an @a4le_2 (Association for Learning Environments) Special Commendation Award! This weekend, the award will be presented at the International LearningSCAPES 2023 conference in Chicago, which is an incredible honour. The NNLC defines a new heart for @domremycollege in NSW. Informed by the Solais Sandpit prototype, the building bridges students and staff across stages, while combining a school library and senior centre with a shared Learning Hub. We’re delighted that the judges recognised the unique and visionary process involved. The project is an exemplar for how research, co-design, post-occupancy evaluation, prototyping and piloting can upskill a school community to participate in rich conversations that bridge pedagogy and space, and build the capacity of future users to co-inhabit a collective vision. The NNLC project also helped inform the Sophia Program, an integrated professional learning and research program funded by @sydcatholicschools (SCS) and led by the @unimelb. Hayball is proud to share that Vlasta Brown (Jeftic), a Senior Project Leader at Hayball, has been awarded the Emerging Architects Prize at the 2023 ACT Architecture Awards. Vlasta personifies the way that architecture should be making a positive contribution to contemporary society. She has led significant projects through highly regarded practices, resulting in both state and national architecture awards, including The Alastair Swayn Foundation Strategic Grant, which she is using to research and implement strategies to address the growing housing affordability crisis in the ACT. Her commitment to community and people is exemplified through her volunteer work for United Nations in South Sudan and for Engineers Without Borders Australia in Timor-Leste. We are delighted that our research, led by Eilish Barry, was awarded the @alastairswaynfoundation Design Thinking Grant for the research in social value for design and architecture. The measurement of social value in architecture is an emerging area, and we are thankful that the ASF has supported our desire to share our knowledge and propose a method to quantify social value for broader use within the architectural industry. We believe that the contribution of the Alastair Swayn Foundation will allow a wider audience to access our research. We're proud to share that Nightingale Village has been shortlisted in the @architectureanddesignaustralia Sustainability Awards in the Multi-Residential Dwelling category. Congratulations to the team! We look forward to the results announcement at the awards gala evening hosted at Sydney Cricket Ground on 9 November 2023. Nightingale Village is a zero-gas residential precinct comprising six distinctive buildings. Each building in The Village achieves a NatHERS rating between 7.8 and 9 stars. The precinct is liberally landscaped and constructed with low-embodied carbon materials. The zero-gas buildings feature rooftop solar array delivered through embedded energy networks. Generous, easily accessible bike parking encourages the use of active transport. The Sustainability Awards is Australia’s longest running and most prestigious awards program dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating excellence in sustainable design and architecture. 192 A'Beckett Student Accommodation is designed for inclusive, lifestyle-led student living. The public areas of the building are designed to create a sense of community, with co-living amenities such as a laundry, gym, cinema room, games zone, and a rooftop well-being garden and dining space. At ground level, the design included the widening and activation of the adjacent Electric Lane to improve the pedestrian ground plane experience, and to increase passive surveillance. In 2023 we completed 192 A’Beckett Student Accommodation, located centrally near the vibrant Queen Victoria Market. The form of the 27-storey building considers its location on the edge of Melbourne’s Hoddle grid, contributing a refined silhouette to the city’s skyline. The tower section of the building combines bronze and glass blade mullions with finely-grained patterned concrete. The façade of the building’s podium takes its cues from surrounding heritage buildings, with deep articulated brick reveals and punched openings allowing for the play of light and shadow. Construction of 402 Macaulay Road in Kensington has officially begun! We proudly celebrated this important milestone with Victorian Premier @danielandrewsmp , Victorian Minister for Housing @brooksymp and Lord Mayor of Melbourne @sallycapp AO. Situated on the site of a former confectionary factory in Melbourne’s inner north, 402 Macaulay Road Kensington, marks developer @assemble.communities ' first Build-to-Rent community development. Hayball forms part of the award-winning design team for the project, also consisting of @kerstin_thompson_architects and @sblastudio Studio Landscape Architects and Urban Designers. Another Hayball project made it onto the @dezeenawards_ architecture longlist: Nightingale Village!
