We have a number of drones which are used by our @police.drones team across Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. Not only were we early adopters of the technology, but they were the first UK police drone team back in 2015. Drones allow us to cover larger areas with less officers, to get images and information from different angles and to get views of areas where it would be dangerous to send a person. This can include: 📹 capturing evidential images at crimes scenes and scenes of road traffic collisions, 🔍 searching for missing people and offenders, 🏞 supporting incidents where people are in dangerous positions or in hazardous terrain, and, 🚒 supporting partner agencies such as the fire and rescue service. #MeetYourPolice #DorsetPolice #police #drone #PoliceDrone

When you think of a police dog, what comes to mind? Probably a German Shepherd or maybe a Belgian Malinois like the lovely PD Zayha in this picture. They’re what we call general purpose (or GP) police dogs. They’re the bread and butter of the dog unit and are trained to handle everything from searching for missing people to tracking suspects. To qualify police dog, the dog and the handler attend an initial 13-week residential training course.
