On the occasion of International Coffee Day, 1 October, Sunday, we bring you a Talk on the history of Coffee as a "Social drug" @cafe16satyanagar at 10.30AM. Coffee has had many histories since its cultivation and trade began in the Arab world in the 14-15th centuries. The talk focuses on the early career of coffee as the ‘Muslim wine’ before Europeans discovered it. It will also briefly talk about how coffee houses in England gave rise to a distinct form of sociability and on the early history of coffee houses in India. Anirban Bandyopadhyay teaches history at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences, Bhubaneswar. We had a rich and invigorating discussion on the issue of Climate Change and Disabilities. The U.S. Consulate, Hyderbad ( @uscghyderabad ) and @bakul_foundation had a talk on CLIMATE CHANGE AND DISABILITY: LENS ON ODISHA by Jason Strother(@jasonwstrother ) a freelance Multimedia Journalist from the United States at the @bakullibrary He has worked for National Geographic, BBC and Wall Street Journal among others, and is the founder of Lens15 Media, a disability focussed news platform. Jason’s research looks at how climate change impacts people with a disability. He will present his research on Odisha and South Asia as a Fulbright Fellow. There were senior Govt officials, representatives of media houses, students of Climate Change etc, who brought diverse perspectives to the discussion. Ms Poonam Guha, IAS spoke from her experience as Collector, Jagatsinghpur during FANI cyclone. Ms Padma Mahanti spoke of her attempts at including Disability in State Action Plan on Climate Change when she was Director, Environment in Kerala.
