Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Michael Marschner @Southern_Nevada

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I live in Las Vegas, but grew up outside Washington D.C. I spend as much time as possible exploring the beautiful desert and mountains of my adopted state.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I’m interested in a great many things, politics, philosophy, literature, but most of those things don’t translate too well into visual images, so I mostly upload pictures I’ve taken of the varied landscapes in and around Las Vegas.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

Living in Nevada, it has always bothered me when people only equate the Las Vegas area with gambling and casinos, so I chose the name Southern_Nevada to highlight the fact that this part of the state has so many awesome things to offer besides casinos.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

I only use the editing app Snapseed. Every picture is edited differently, don’t really have a routine. I usually, however, tweek the color saturation and clarity levels.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I don’t have any one favorite, but there are so many people out there who visit beautiful places and take gorgeous pictures of nature…I tend to like all of them.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Watching the sunrise in the Spring Mountains.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Not sure, never tried it.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

It is very important to try and pair with people who can post images that are in keeping with their pre-existing interests and personas. People follow them because they posit images they like, if these people begin to post images that are radically different and out of character, the campaign will not succeed. For example, if I tried to post about a new restaurant, I would most likely not appeal to most of my followers. If, however, I posted about my favorite hiking boots, or backpack, that might resonate.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

I don’t think there is any substitute for those. If the people following me get their feed clogged with out of character, vapid posts, they will unfollow me. That’s what I do.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Never done it, can’t say.
