Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Kevin Lau @5072631923

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

I am currently still considered a teenager, but I already have big plans and dreams. I actually plan to study in Cambridge University, while pursuing my dream, I would like to share my life to the world. Being tech-savvy is my stuff. I like posting electronics, but I currently don’t have the money to do so. I only have enough to start my own business on Instagram. I always wanted to be a influencer, so I searched for a campaign to get some money for future plans in enlarging my social community, and making maybe life hacks videos and doing experiments on YouTube soon. So I got fascinated when I finally found Starngage, which was what I was looking for, because not many campaigns include Hong Kong. I live in Hong Kong but I consider myself as an English speaker more often, since that was the primary language I first learnt. Anyhow, I would really want to enlarge my Instagram business, and at the same time help campaigns advertise for a win-win situation.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

My topics of interest as I just said is electronics. As a tech-savvy teen, I have always been figuring about the codes and learning programmes built in a computer. I also love Apple Products, and I would really want to try my skills on those luxurious technology. However, I don’t have the money to do so, therefore I am currently starting my influencer business with daily life posts, and specially this Easter, it has only been a week since I started serious Instagram business, and I have already got over 15k followers. Doing what I can do best, which is scenery shooting, helped me a lot in gaining followers quick. Therefore, I have more of my daily life photos in my Instagram account than in any other category.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

My Instagram name, which is just my name plus ‘official trademark’ at the back, is really simple. I didn’t want those fancy names I have fought of, just simple, sharing what I know, like and do best at. I learnt how to type trademark symbols on my device, which was why it was added a few days ago. And just like any other Instagrammer, I added “Official” just to clarify that this is my true account.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

Apps include Clips, the latest video app which I use to post short vids. Clips is the latest app introduced in iOS 10.3.1, which includes so many different crazy stuff. You can take a photo of your own Mum, and turn out like a comic book drawing. I also use Pic Collage, for example the logo of my account, was created with that. Sometimes I use Aviary, but I mostly use different angles to take photos and adjust the lighting on the phone, an use a filter and edit it on Instagram, which is very convenient.

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I don’t have a special Instagrammer I really like. I think that all of those who are really trying their best to make photos, influencing the audience and creating the most craziest and creative videos are all the best. All of them inspire me in different directions, in different categories. I actually think that Formula One is the Instagrammer which inspires me most. Taking a pic of a car travelling at 300 km/h is a hard thing, and it gives me inspiration to keep on going.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

This might be surprising, but I recommend trying digital gaming. I was once really into games, likes all of us have once, and shooting digital gaming photos is a very fun thing to do, or trying to live stream digital gaming with Instagram.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

Helping the campaign. It is the best part where you can enjoy doing something you are good at to help a campaign grow, and also your community grow. And of course, another factor is money. Money helps me get better equipment to take photos and make vids.

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

I think brands running campaigns should offer more options, because not all of us are able too fiend a specific product to take a photo of. More options, more quality photos from everybody. Maintains authenticity is simple. Always not photoshop, and make something that is out of reality.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

Quality over Quantity! That is the most important rule you should remember to create content that everybody likes. And for original content, we should not infringe others copyrights and use their photos. If we use others photos, it will only discourage them. That is what we learnt in secondary school.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Doing what I like to do to help campaigns, just like what I mentioned above. Earning money is another factor, but always remember to use original content and high quality photos. I always want to test the limit and see how much I can get from brands.
