Drew Sparrow is a very talented and unique individual, I would consider him a genius and I know for a fact that if he wasn’t making surfboards he would be an engineer designing rockets or underwater tunnels. @trevorsvencarlson on a bomb 💣 last winter at Jaws. Using a 10,4 “trevor model” blade. Happy late Bday Trev! Trevor and I started designing carbon fiber boards a few years ago. When we dialed his boards with a lot of testing and trial and error, Trevor was able to fully switch to carbon fiber. Now, my goal is to move more in that direction, especially with Guns. What I like the most about carbon fiber boards is the precision they provide and the fast response. They last longer and also weigh less. Seven Mile Miracle: Seven years ago, on a Saturday at 9 p.m., I got invited to do a race. I tend to say yes to everything without much research involved. So, I agreed. I asked what kind of race it was. My friend just said to bring your big board and meet me at the Lifeguard tower at 5:30 a.m. To my surprise, when I arrived at the tower at dawn, I only saw lifeguards, around forty north shore lifeguards with prone boards, fins, googles, and most importantly fit and focused, ready to win the race (that's when I knew I was in trouble). It was a lifeguard race 🪦. A race you would not want to do unless you are a lifeguard or a triathlete. I had a mini panic attack when they explained that it was a seven-mile race from Sunset Beach to Haleiwa. It was too late to bail so long story short ended up finishing the race and it was the worst 3.5 hours of my life. When I showed up in Haleiwa, everyone was so shocked that the winner donated me his ✋made trophy. I won the trophy for the seven-mile miracle because me finishing the race was indeed a miracle 😂. Back to the future, @joeyaloha_ invites me every year to do the race and I always decline. But somehow, this year Joey convinced me to relive my trauma and give it a go one more time. I felt a bit honored that I got invited, so I agreed. The night before the race, I found out that only six male lifeguards (in top shape) and @jamie_mitcho were going to do the race this year. I had another panic attack 🪦😆! I didn’t want to do this, I'm the only girl, and this sucks. I wanted to bail but once again, it was too late. I finished the race in 2:29 minutes. One positive thing I learned from the race was that by putting myself outside my comfort zone, I tend to learn a lot about myself, and most of the time I end up surprising myself. Thank you, @northshorelifeguardassociation for putting this race together and for the invite, and thanks to my friend @joeyaloha_ for all the training we shared.
