From September 20, 2021 to the end of October, the City will remove unused parking meter poles from the downtown areas. ⚠️ When the work is complete, community members can expect more sidewalk space for pedestrians in downtown SLO. Our crews will need to use a portion of the sidewalk and close adjacent parking stalls while removing the poles, but these inconveniences are temporary and should not last more than a day at each location. 🚧 👷 📲 Please contact the City's Parking Services with any questions. 🚨 COMMUTER ALERT 🚨 Tank Farm Road Closure between Wavertree and Orcutt. Orcutt Road will remain open to provide a temporary bypass to both Johnson Avenue and Broad Street. Travelers are encouraged to take alternate routes, if possible. A portion of Tank Farm Road will be closed starting on Friday, Sept. 3 for about three months as part of the second phase of construction on the new Orcutt/Tank Farm Roundabout. Tank Farm Road will be temporarily closed between Wavertree Street and Orcutt Road, and travelers are encouraged to take alternate routes, if possible. “When this roundabout is finished, the community can expect significantly improved traffic flow and roadway safety in that area,” Project Manager Jennifer Rice said. “We’re working to minimize impacts to surrounding residents and the area’s commuters by completing this project in five phases. Anyone curious about the project can visit www.slocity.org/roundabouts for more information or follow the City of SLO on social media for regularly scheduled updates.” Orcutt Road will remain open to provide a temporary bypass to both Johnson Avenue and Broad Street. Those traveling through the construction zone should expect delays, and City officials encourage travelers to plan additional time into their trips and drive cautiously. “Our construction team is working as safely and efficiently as possible to build the new roundabout in a way that minimizes impacts to our community members, including residents, commuters and visitors,” Rice said. “The traffic staging of this project was designed to decrease overall construction duration and inconveniences to travelers.” According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, roundabouts are safer and more sustainable than other than other types of intersections. They reduce the risk of dangerous collisions Construction on the Orcutt/Tank Farm Roundabout will be executed over five phases and is expected to be completed in spring 2022. #Cityofslo #SLOcity

Have you ever wondered where your water comes from or what happens to it after it goes down the drain? 💧 The City's Utilities Department understands that the water and wastewater industry has acted as a "behind the scenes" hero for many years. We also know that the key to ensuring these systems are maintained is for community members like you to understand how these systems operate and to have an interest in their safe and continuous operation. The City's Utilities Department has placed educational sidewalk stickers and signs at various water infrastructure locations throughout SLO. Get to know YOUR water by finding the sidewalk stickers or signs, and scanning the provided QR code with your mobile device to open an interactive, virtual map and learn about that specific infrastructure feature. Then explore the other sections of the map to learn more about YOUR water and wastewater resources. If you don't have a way to scan or access a QR code, don't worry. You can visit the map online at www.slocity.org/yourwater to start learning. You can also enjoy one of two challenges for a chance to win a Utilities Department water bottle! Complete your own ‘Passport To My Water’ activity booklet! Download and print out the activity booklet or pickup a copy at our office, 879 Morro St. in San Luis Obispo, during open office hours (Monday/Wednesday 1 – 4 PM, Tuesday/Thursday 9 – 12 PM). Use the storymap to complete each activity, then visit and take a selfie at an infrastructure item of your choice for each category. Bring in your completed booklet and photos, or scan and send your items to [email protected] to claim your reusable Utilities Department water bottle. Follow the City of San Luis Obispo Utilities Department on Facebook for the “Where in the world is this sticker?” challenge. We will periodically post a photo of one of the stickers or signs to encourage the community to can guess where it is. Residents who guess correctly will be entered into a random drawing to win a reusable Utilities Department water bottle.

Through this partnership, the community will benefit from public art installations downtown, at local roundabouts, and in neighborhood greenways. . This is the first of many upcoming installations through our partnership. Visit downtown SLO to enjoy 'Mamma Mobius' at SLOMA (pictured here). The iconic and transcendent sculpture by Mark di Suvero is on the Museum’s lawn, near Mission Plaza. This sculpture references the Mobius band, a surface that only has one side and one edge. This work demonstrates di Suvero’s deep commitment to mathematics and science, as he intentionally finds ways to integrate a diverse curiosity into all aspects of his work.
