The biggest challenge a mother gets everyday at 6am: waking the kids up for school. It's already a battle to peel ourselves out of bed, now imagine doing that for not just one kid, but FOUR of them. Each having such different morning personalities. But I'd consider myself a pro now - I have solutions to each one, after many trials and error.  Idris is the scariest one. If not woken up right, he'll cry and scream and fling himself all over the bed to throw tantrum. Solution: shove milk bottle to soothe him. If that doesn't work, gotta sing a song and tickle him slowly. Mariam is the whiny one. Why me, why didn't you wake Abang first, why cant I get 5 more minutes, why this, why that, the world is against me. Solution: wake Daniel up first. Daniel is the easiest one to manage in the morning. He just gets up and walks himself up to the shower. He'll be the first to be ready, always. Which leaves the last one, who is the HARDEST to deal with every morning. Yep, you guessed right. Little Miss Sarah. Oh this girl. She needs to be dragged and carried into the bathroom (my mom said I was exactly like this, which I refuse to believe). Normally I'd use the "don't make me count to 5" trick, and it'll work with the other kids. With Sarah, you can count till 245 and she'll still be glued to the bed. You can shake her, call out her name... right next to her ear, and she won't budge. You can tell her the teacher will scold her if she's late, and she'll ignore it. Whatever Gen that Sarah is in, we better watch out because they have no fear whatsoever. Then one day, I tried a different tactic. I know Sarah is competitive so I used that angle. "SARAH ILHAM SHAH YOU BETTER WAKE UP NOW!" I shouted after losing every ounce of patience left in the smallest leftover cell in the cell of my cells. Ignores. I stepped closer and whispered in her ear. "Sarah, everyone is still asleep. If you get up now, that means you win. You'll be the winner." And suddenly, her legs move, her hands unpeel the blanket, she gets up and without a word uttered, she walks to the bathroom, with the yearning of needing to win today. Real winner = Mommy. 🏆

It was a hall of young entrepreneurs and in the crowd, a hand raised. A beautiful young girl, full of spark and she asked "Hi Vivy, I'd like to ask what is your leadership style?" From the stage, I sat on the sofa, struggling to answer this seemingly simple question. That's how I met @kimmyitreal for the very first time. So much so that I wrote about it in my book. Kim was "someone", because I didn't know her name then. And it's crazy that a few years later, we are now collaborating! Fate has its way of bringing people together and nothing is purely coincidental. My Mariam turned 9 yesterday and I sighed. She's growing up so fast (literally, she's a head taller than her classmates). It's getting harder to kiss her, she's way too cool for that now. On her birthday she had a whole day concert practice so we barely saw her and she didn't seem to mind at all - it was a "I'm very busy, sorry I can't be late gtg bye" kind of thing. And this is so Mariam, always eager for responsibilities, no compromises. Out of all my kids, she was the only one who didn't cry when she started school. She was ready for the world before I was ready for her to be. 🥺 This week, I just wanted to sleep with her at night. Holding on to her a little tighter, hoping she'll hold on to me too. My little baby Siew Mai is growing up, next year double digit, nooooo. At dinner last night, I just watched her with mixed feelings - happy to be a mom to such a wonderful and beautiful child, but also thinking why the heck is she wearing eyeliner. Happy birthday, Mariam. Give me back my eyeliner. I love you. #mariamimanshah
