I make one of these street films every month. I don’t know why and there is nowhere for them to go, per se, and yet, I’m out, filming, all the time. 💙💔

Alright, some big news. I’ve decided to join the @wearedivision7 [US] & @smugglersite [UK]rosters. it’s a huge change and I’m excited about the future possibilities. I wrote out a novel in my Stories, so I won’t re-hash it here, but @patrickmillingsmith’s text to me when I told him I’d made the decision summed it up beautifully: “Oh man, I’m psyched. Feeling that good pressure of the promise and the prospect.” That’s it right there - the “good pressure of the promise and the prospect” is intuition which leads to action which leads to confidence en repeat. Upwards x Onwards 💙🙌🏼💪🏼✌🏼

heading back to the land of inspiration soon. 💙💙💙

If I’ve been quiet about STAGES as of late, it’s because I’ve been holding my breath because of all the incredible doors that have opened and people who have come around the film. small action is compounding for the first time and it all feels both ephemeral and inevitable. But at the core of the film, my love for this man, @davidramirez. He inspires me beyond measure. Im not sure that anyone in my life has taught me more about fiercely believing in the contribution that *only you* can make to the world through the things you make. Hell or high water this man is singing from his heart. 5, 5000, 50000 people, it doesn’t matter, the song is the same. The journey of this film is really my own journey in developing the courage to say the thing that’s on my heart regardless of *any* outcome. This is an unbroken moment from a show I threw at The Hotel Cafe a couple of months ago. A wink and a nod for so many of you who have been on this multi-year journey. I didn’t film during the show, but I did roll one single clip during sound check - shared in its entirety here. The heart of the film is embedded in the sloppy reframes and ND flips. Onwards 💙

Cooking up some street film experiments with @marcscibilia. This, a single moment as I walked through Times Square heading to Bryant Park for a meeting. The guy in gold said he’s been performing there for 35 years. This wasn’t a show, but him cutting up for some kids who stopped to ask questions while he was packing up. I have so many questions. Which is always a good time to roll camera. More to come. Music by @marcscibilia

“We’re all in the Finals” - I cannot tell you how meaningful it’s been to be a part of this campaign, to have been invited into the process and trusted by the team at Translation. It’s always a big ask to turn execution over to a director and I don’t take it lightly. It took every ounce of my effort, intention, and growth to help bring this to life in a way that felt connected and alive despite the bullride at hand. My goal was quite simple: keep a firm hand on the tone of the film. Treat the celebrities like my “regular” cast and photograph them in as loose and unprecious ways as possible. “Real people, real places, real reactions” x1000. Then, as things inevitably evolved, we always had a spirit to guide our choices. I see many of my peers dialing up the scale: huge set pieces to flex their directorial prowess. I’ve been on the inverse journey: can you make something that feels loose, alive, and “observed” even if it’s within the rigidity of the commercial filmmaking machine? Its a question that I don’t know the answer to, but am willing to ask in public through the work. I have endless stories from this one and I’ll share a few here and there as we move into the finals. (I’ve never worked harder than trying to get Larry Bird to smile!!) This was a moment, for sure. I have nothing but love for the NBA team, the brilliant team at Translation (Mina, Steve, Nathan, Lee, Jason, Kamal and Myles - I can’t find all of your IG handles), the incredible LA crew (one of then best in my career. Maz!!), the lovely local crews all over the country (including the Jimmy Kimmel Live crew) who helped step up and get some of these scenes in the can, the post team at Work, Parlaiment, and Rare Medium. They make sense of it all, for sure. Massive credit list incoming. It’s over 300 names. Specifically thanks to @cambio_was_here for exploring with me. It’s been a minute since I’ve felt so free. I’ve tagged a few department heads and agency folks for now. Team effort is the tip of the iceberg. DC up next, but only to explore more of the worlds we created/captured. There was so much created in those few weeks.

on my first day back in town, the citibike rainguard on the bike I was on crumpled while riding down Broadway. I got thrown forward over the handlebars along with that behemoth of a bike. Thankfully no major injuries other than a shredded up hand, a couple stitches, and some sore ribs. It’s been no bikes, no skates, no weights for a bit as I recover. thankful for legs that work. I’ve been walking *everywhere* to get some lower impact movement. Today, I walked to a meeting at 44th street in midtown and back. 13 miles. These are some snaps along the way as I re-acclimate to the city 💙💙💙

Griffith in blue.

There are places in this world in which, if you catch it at the right moment, everything - your life, your direction , the wider world, the people in proximity - all just makes sense. It’s not perfect and the problems still exist, but from a very small, still place…you can feel a sense of hope and beauty that comes from understanding how small we are. Griffith park is one of those places for me. I was in LA for nearly three weeks back in February and I made it up Mt. Hollywood almost 10 times for sunset. Everything clicks. One day, in an attempt to make it to my regular hiking trail, I knew I would miss it, so I bailed and sprinted up to the observatory. Not as solitary as the trails, but still that same feeling. This is about 15 minutes compressed into two. Thank you to the strangers for existing despite my camera’s presence. And thank you to Phoria for the soundtrack in my ears and on these images.
