Today we lost a giant 💔 Our sweet Crackerjack has been a part of our sanctuary family for nearly 13 years. There is truly not a moment in my memory here that he is not there getting into shenanigans, asking for pets, or baaing loudly for some reason or another (how I will miss that baa). He had a larger than life personality and a big, beautiful heart to match. Over the years he charmed his way into many volunteer and visitors hearts with his sweet, goofy self. To say we will miss him doesn’t even begin to cover the immensity of how much he meant to us. With broken hearts we are also grateful to have fulfilled our promise to Crackerjack. He had a long, beautiful life filled with nothing but love, safety, friendship, and adventures. At the end of the day, that is what sanctuary means to us and to know that Crackerjack had what so many sheep like him never experience helps soothe our hurt just a little. We love you sweet man, always and forever. ❤️

Hard to believe that summer is over! It was hot, dusty, and smoky for the majority of it so not much enjoyment to be had, but now it’s acorn season and cooler weather means long evenings searching out the nutty treats. ❤️

All pigs deserve a safe and comfortable place for a peaceful slumber ✨. We’re rapidly approaching the end of August, and while I’ve lost hope that we’ll meet our full $100k match by then (which is heartbreaking), I’m hoping we can still raise what we need to buy the steel for the new pig barn. I can’t wait to see them all spread out in their new barn — especially with winter right around the corner. They’ll be so thankful for a big barn to stretch their legs and not have to be out in the rain and mud. All donations matched! Let’s get these piggies their dream barn. ❤️

It’s too dang hot! 🥵 The last few days we’ve been dealing with triple digits and thick smoke from neighboring wildfires. Yesterday we had multiple animals struggling and unable to cool down without assistance — thankfully we’re stocked up with the essentials: electrolyte popsicles, frozen towels and water bottles, ice, and portable fans. But it’s still been incredibly stressful, especially for our big pig herd who only have small structures to get out of the heat. A new barn will be great in the winter, but it will definitely serve it’s purpose in the summer too especially as we keep experiencing more extreme temperatures. A big shady barn to keep them cool will be a lifesaver, literally. Our fundraiser for the barn has sadly stalled out again. We’re still a ways away from being able to purchase the steel. We’d love to get our IG fundraiser to $1,500 this week! ❤️

🐷New merch!🐷 I’m so excited to share our new merchandise to help us raise funds to ensure our rescued pigs get a new barn. We commissioned one of my favorite artists, super talented @markconlan, to design something really special for us and it’s honestly better than I could have ever dreamed! We ask for an illustration showing what a beautiful life our rescued pigs have — exploring the forest, grazing in their pastures, living life on their terms with care and dignity. My favorite part is all of the little details that come out when you really look at it. It’s perfect and I hope you’ll like it to! All pigs deserve their paradise. ❤️ There are lot’s of styles, colors, and sizes — something for everyone!

Every evening in the summer as the sun sets the animals happily explore, enjoying the cooler temperatures. It’s my favorite part of the day — to see them all together safe and happy. I wanted to share some photos with you that I thought really captures the magic of summer evenings out here. ❤️ An update on our matching fundraiser: We’ve raised $11,560 towards our match which is amazing! However we’re still a long ways from $100k and have a little over a month to raise the rest. That’s very stressful. These funds are critical to ensuring these sweethearts have everything they need — food, medicine, shelter, bedding etc. We stretch every dollar. We dyi, we build everything ourselves, we have no paid staff. We truly can’t survive without your support.

It’s absolutely bananas to think that it’s been four years since this rescue. Our rescued pig herd went from 10 to 137 in the span of just a few weeks. It’s been incredibly challenging and at times I wasn’t sure we were going to make it. We were never prepared for caring for this many pigs long term — but we’ve adapted and worked so hard to give them everything they need and we’re constantly working to improve their lives, which is exactly why we need your help. They’ve outgrown the original structures we built for them (in a haste when it became clear that the pigs would be staying with us) and we desperately need to build them a bigger barn with doors that shut. They need room to walk around when the weather is bad. We need a stall or two set aside for medical cases. These pigs had such a terrible life before coming here. They deserve to have the safety of a big, warm barn that they can share with their entire herd. I’m worried we won’t be able to do this for them because we’re barely getting enough donations right now to cover the basics— but I have to try. A new barn will cost $18,000 (half the cost because Peter will be building it). And right now all donations are matched up to $100k so if we can pull this off, nows the time. ❤️ #summerofpigs

This hot weather can be really dangerous for some of our rescued friends — the pigs especially have a hard time when it gets this hot. We made up a ton of electrolyte pops to hand out during the hottest part of the day and they were very much appreciated 🥰 Unfortunately our matching fundraiser has not gotten off to a great start — we’ve only raised $2,500 so far (which we’re so, so grateful for) but we’ve got a LONG way to go to meet our match which we absolutely must do to continue caring for the animals. All donations matched up to $100k until the end of August! ❤️

✨100k MATCH✨ This is huge news for us! It’s been such a struggle to meet our funding needs lately — so this match is CRUCIAL. It costs so much to care for our rescued friends here and to give them everything they need for the happy, healthy life they deserve. Feed, hay, medical visits and medication, shelter maintenance — it goes on and on and it really adds up. We’re also planning some really cool (and urgently needed) projects for our big pig herd which we will be announcing soon.
