“How do you deal with grief?” Every time I lose an animal I have so many of you reach out to ask me this for weeks and months afterwards. This lifestyle has so many joys, but with that great joy comes unbearable heartbreak. The price of all this love is loss and death is always there to collect it’s debt. When rescuing animals you don’t know what they’ve been through before arriving to you or if your care will be enough to save them from any past traumas and sometimes you make your own mistakes along the way. I’m still learning how to deal with the grief that comes along with this career path; how to honor the animals that have passed through my doors and now rest in my garden. When grief starts to feel heavy I tend to remind myself of how thankful I have been to have the opportunity to provide so many a safe passing filled with love, knowing that they didn’t have to be alone or suffer. Loss is inevitable, but also natural. It reminds us to cherish what we have for the time we have it. Thank you for cherishing their lives with me.

Mort battled so much in his short life, and even though we were able to buy him much more time than he would have had in the wild. I still wish we could have given him more. So nice we did it twice! This is our second set of sofas from @interiordefine. Our last sofa held up against raccoon claws, fox pee, dog hair, toddler spills, rough housing and so much more. So far this set seems just as durable. Over the weekend we had guests visiting and they were so taken they wanted one for themselves so I had to tell them about the whole process and how @interiordefine sofas are made to order.
