'As consumers we have so much power to change the world by just being careful in what we buy' - Emma Watson This photo is one of my favorites I have produced while I was living in England. I have shot this for my A level Coursework and still think it's so relevant. From pesticides to fertilizers, chemicals to high-energy input, to non-biodegradable synthetic materials and a large consumption of water, fast fashion has a massive detrimental impact on the environment, the climate and our health too. The rate at which we are consuming and discarding clothes is contributing to mass waste not only in our own landfills but also in developing countries. 85% of clothing is being dumped every year. Globally, we consume 62 million tonnes of textiles per year. By 2030, this is expected to reach 102 million tonnes. Because people are buying more new clothes, they are using them less: the average piece of clothing is worn 36% fewer times now than it was 15 years ago. Less than 1% of material used to produce clothing is recycled into new clothing. Everyone should rethink their behaviour of supporting Mass Fashion Companies who only care about their profit. We have to go back to the old ways, where humans were wearing the same pieces for years and years, looking after it and caring it with respect and gratitude. We cannot continue what we are doing at the moment as we are living in a throwaway society that is ruining our planet right now.
