It’s World Mental Health Day and I'm reflecting on how connecting with nature has been key for me during the darkest moments of grief for the past couple years and with Maui’s recent passing. 🌲 Forest bathing is more than just relaxing outdoors. It’s the practice of slowing down. Immersing yourself in nature and taking in all your surroundings using your senses with no distractions. Results from a 2015 Stanford University study showed that nature-walkers have less activity in a region of the brain that is associated with depression and rumination. Along with that study, I’ve personally discovered that… ✨ being outside can remind you that there is still beauty in the world. 🏔️ the wilderness provides a quiet place to disconnect and process your grief. As well as talk out loud to your loved one without feeling judged. Most importantly though 🌿Mother Earth asks nothing of you🌿. Outside grief doesn’t fight to exist - it’s just there. You can pay attention to it, but you aren’t required to do anything. In a society that wants you to have your act together 24/7, the wilderness allows you to heal the way you need to. 👉🏽 In my bio you can find Forest Bathing: Connecting with Nature During Grief. It goes over the history of forest bathing/shinrin-yoku, the benefits, forest bathing without a forest, and how to forest bathe with examples of senses to get you started! #worldmentalhealthday
Adventurers speak of the Monkey Face in Smith Rock State Park… However, in the quiet solitude of the park’s sunrise, an eerie presences emerges—the pumpkin-headed guardian. Lurking only in the shadows of October and while the sun rises, it is not seen by all who wander there. Those who do catch a glimpse say it’s a sight that will haunt them forever. 🎃 We love seeing your festive photos - Tag us @womenwhoexplore_oregon #womenwhoexploreoregon so we can share! 📸 Repost: @lassosafroworld 💌 Want to join an event?
