During WWII, the US Navy issued the almost disturbingly short cotton shorts to all underwater demolition team members. The shorts varied a bit in texture and color depending on the manufacturer. These were only issued to Frogmen, so no other navy folks got them, which most likely caused a lot of envy and heart ache. And decades after decades, these iconic shorts are still issued to SEAL candidates. In 2022, 94 people drowned in Finland, 44 of them for an “unknown reason”. Since summer is the time when Finns isolate themselves at their cottage, some of these could stem from an alcohol-fueled cabin fever.
