At least they are getting smaller. If I remember correctly I got this somewhere, sold it (don’t ask me why) to a dealer, who then sold it to a collector, and then I bought it today. I didn’t remember the inscriptions, which I think just unlocked the identity of the family behind a bunch of local chests that look like this. The inside is inscribed Russell Timmons and the back is initialed JWT. A Russell Timmons recorded in Berlin Maryland in the 1920 census was born in 1911 to father John W Timmons. This chest has round nail construction...I could get behind a date of manufacture that late, or it could have been an heirloom.
