COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT February 16, 2022 Chief Bruce R. McNamee is pleased to announce that a team of assessors from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission is scheduled to arrive at our Police Department on Wednesday March 23, 2022 for a re-accreditation assessment which consists of examining various aspects of the Police Department’s policies and procedures, operations and facilities. Verification by the Assessment Team that the Department meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain state Accreditation -- a self-initiated evaluation process by which police departments strive to meet and maintain standards that have been established for the profession, by the profession. Department’s participating the program must pass a re-accreditation assessment every (3) three years. The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Program consists of 257 mandatory standards as well as 125 optional standards. In order to achieve accreditation status, the Department must meet all applicable mandatory standards as well as 55% (based on the number of officers) of the optional standards. Achieving, and maintaining, Accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. Anyone interested in learning more about this program is invited to call Chief Bruce R. McNamee or Accreditation Manager Lt. Christopher Dolby.

February 15th is School Resource Officer Appreciation Day! We would like to recognize Officer Immelt for her many years of work at the Edgartown School. Currently working with Sgt. DeRoche, we appreciate the work they both put in to the program.
Many thanks to @cardmyyard_marthasvineyard for this amazing display in front of our station. Monique really went the extra mile! This is a very nice Valentines Day surprise for all of us at EPD đź’™

Good Evening Edgartown!
Good Morning Edgartown! Our Edgartown highway department crew is hard at work again this morning. The 4:30 AM start didn’t damper their spirits. They will have South Water Street from High Street to the Clevelandtown intersection closed for the next hour or so as they continue downtown snow removal.
Wow! Edgartown Highway really had their work cut out for them. Starting downtown snow clearing well before sunrise at 4am. This video is only a glimpse of the work they have put in the last few days. They have also kept the roads clear, and made sure the school could open this morning. Literally moving tons of ice and snow over the last few days! We can’t thank them enough!
Keep Gas Furnace and Dryer Vents Clear Be mindful of heavy snow and drifts- please make sure your furnace/dryer vent is free of snow and ice. If the vent is blocked, it can pose a serious safety hazard. Take the time to clear away any built-up snow!
The snow started out wet and heavy. Now we have an ice cold frozen tundra. If you are shoveling snow please take your time, go slow, take breaks, and don’t be afraid to call it quits. Snow shoveling is hard on the heart, so if you have pre-existing conditions be particularly mindful.
Yesterday was busy day for EPD! Here is a recap of some of our storm posts from 1/29/22 in case you missed them.
