#BuffaloBayouEast Update: 📍JAPHET CREEK We are excited to share that construction is underway at a key site in Buffalo Bayou Partnership’s 10-Year Plan for Buffalo Bayou East. Japhet Creek is a hidden gem nestled near the north bank of Buffalo Bayou. This historic tributary stretching deep into the Fifth Ward will become a neighborhood pocket park with trails and footpaths, wildflower and native grass plantings, an entry plaza, and interpretive signage. In the future, a direct trail connection will lead from the Fifth Ward to Buffalo Bayou through an elevated trail that follows the creek’s lush banks, and a pedestrian bridge will connect this site to an expanded Tony Marron Park on the south bank. This time last year, BBP announced the historic public-private partnership that will enable us to realize our longtime vision: the transformational Buffalo Bayou East Master Plan. A remarkable $100 million catalyst gift from the @kinder_foundation combined with significant public support from the City of Houston and Harris County, will bring a dynamic network of parks, trails, and unique spaces, connecting Buffalo Bayou Park and downtown with the Greater East End and Fifth Ward neighborhoods. Now, construction is underway on several projects in Buffalo Bayou East, including Lockwood on Buffalo Bayou, a mixed-income housing project, and Japhet Creek, a bayou tributary that will connect the Fifth Ward community with the waterfront. These projects are only the beginning. Over the coming months and years, we will share updates on our work developing expanded green space, inclusive community gathering places, pedestrian bridges, and more. With the help of this historic public-private partnership and a robust network of philanthropic donors and community partners, BBP is dedicated to creating spaces that connect all Houstonians to Buffalo Bayou and to each other.
