We are so glad to have been a part of your postpartum healing journey @jessiewongphysio -- Reposted from @jessiewongphysio Week 5ļøāƒ£ and 6ļøāƒ£ . Well, thatā€™s a wrap! We got through the first 6 weeks with a few bumps in the road! šŸ„³. . We got discharged from the care of our midwives and OB team and ready to start the next phase of our journey together šŸ„°. . It also means Iā€™m done wearing this belly wrap from @belliesinc. I wore this wrap a few days after my little one arrived to help support the core, encourage healing and facilitate alignment of the abdominal muscles and surrounding connective tissue. This isnā€™t a waist trainer or a means to get ā€œskinnyā€. I still need to do the hard work and strengthen the core and pelvic floor muscles. Next up, pelvic floor physio...fingers crossed things are functioning wellšŸ¤žšŸ˜³. . . #postpartum #4thtrimester #pregnancy #baby #bellywrap #pelvicfloor - #regrann

Easy c-section desensitization techniques to try at home! Often after a cesarean birth, the skin is very sensitive around the scar due to cutting through the tissues and cutaneous nerves. To help with the regrowth of these nerves, desensitization techniques can help to encourage this, and reduce pain around the area. Begin with rubbing different textures near and over your scar. Start with soft materials such as cotton balls or Q-tips. Once the skin begins to be less sensitive, you can move into rougher materials such as towels, paper towels and a pair of jeans. Have you tried these cesarean desensitization techniques? . . . . . . . #belliesinc #postpartumrecovery #postpartum #postpartumhealing #bellywrapping #pregnancy #pregnancyjourney #birth #thisispostpartum #cesareanbirth #csectionscar #csectionrecovery

The @belliesinc #AbTank is a gentle supporting top that we recommend as the base layer underneath the #AbWrap. It can be purchased separately or it comes as part of our complete #AbSystem. Here are our 5 favourite features that make the Ab Tank a must have for #postpartumlife - the tank provides gentle compression to feel some external stability and support, even when not wearing the wrap - it fits close to the body with no extra bulk, making it the perfect base layer under the ab wrap - the neckline is cut below the chest which makes it perfect for feeding from the body or for skin to skin snuggles - we made it extra long for extra coverage and comfort - the mesh racer back keeps you feeling cool and secure Oh, we have to add a 6! Many customers use the tank well beyond the 8 weeks you use the wrap for. It is a perfect base later to wear underneath another shirt for easy breast/chest feeding.

The Core 4ā€“the group of core muscles made up of the Diaphragm, Pelvic Floor, Transversus Abdominis and the Multifidusā€”is an integral part of the body, and to be able to perform its job, it needs to be functioning optimally. With that in mind, itā€™s important to remember that although pregnancy and birth are both miraculous things that the human body is able to do, they both take a physical toll on the body, including impacting the Core 4. Here are some of the more common aspects of pregnancy and birth that can all affect the function of the Core 4: Pregnancy: with the weight of the growing baby, during pregnancy the abdominal wall, pelvic floor and low back undergo additional strain. The abdominal muscles become over-stretched and will start to move away from the midline (diastasis recti), causing increasing pressure on the pelvic floor. Posture + Alignment: the pelvis will often start to tip anteriorly, the shoulders round as the chest grows, and the head juts forward. Many birthing people try to counteract the forward shift in body weight by pulling back which results in clenching of the glutes, tucking of the tailbone, thrusting the hips and gripping in the ribs. This strategy is not optimal, causing poor alignment and leading to a dysfunctional pelvic floor. Childbirth: Vaginal birth causes extensive strain on the pelvic floor muscles, connective tissue and nerves. The excessive pressure and stretching, and other interventions that may occur can all lead to a challenged core 4 unit. Cesarean births affect the muscles and connective tissue due to the incision into the abdominal wall. Start of high impact exercise too soon: after birth, many people want nothing more than to get back into their regular clothes and resume or start a fitness program to lose the baby weight. The premature return to impact exercise leads to core dysfunction in so many postpartum people. During your pregnancy, itā€™s important to understand the impacts to the Core 4, and have a plan in place to restore your core function including working with a pelvic floor physio, and using a program such as our Core Confidence Exercise program in pregnancy and postpartum to help heal.

Did you knowā€¦ ItĀ has become clear that a large percentage of birthing people develop a separation of the Ab Muscles (Diastasis Recti) during their pregnancies and it typically does not completely heal on its own. Research is showing that if any change will happen, it will happen within the first 8 weeks postpartum. We believe that by providing physical support with The Ab Wrap, coupled with the restorative Core Confidence program, people will heal better and be more likely to return to optimal function. The 8 week Core Confidence program gradually progresses you through a core exercise program that is designed for use in pregnancy, the first 8 weeks postpartum and as a restorative core program for people struggling with incontinence, prolapse and/or diastasis recti. The program is both preventive and restorative meaning the same program is used in your pregnancy AND in the first 8 weeks postpartum. By learning the exercises during your pregnancy you can be confident knowing that your body is prepared but also that you will not have to learn a new exercise program once your baby arrives. These exercises were designed by a team of pelvic floor specialists including a Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist and Pelvic Floor fitness professionals so we know they are both safe and effective to use right after birth. The program comes FREE with the purchase of the Ab Wrap or Ab System and can also be purchased separately.

While pregnant, not only is your body preparing for birth, but your mind is too, and it can at times be overwhelming. Itā€™s important to give yourself the time and space to prepare mentally and physically for birth, and the postpartum period. Here are a few ways we recommend to help prepare for birth: 1. Connecting with loved ones and building a trusted postpartum support team 2. Taking care of your body with regular visits to your healthcare provider, and other preferred specialists such as massage or pelvic floor physiotherapist 3. Setting intentions for birth, and visualizing your ideal birth experience 4. Work with partner on clarifying values + priorities for the birth 5. Having discussions with partner around expectations for life with a newborn, the adjustment, sleep deprivation and partnerā€™s role in daily routine 6. Plan for postpartum recovery including gathering supplies, setting boundaries and self-care practices Do you have any other ways you prepared for birth?
