Instagram Influencer Spotlight On: Jolene Ruth Tan @joleneruth

1) Tell us a little about yourself. What are you doing now and where do you come from?

Hi I’m Joleneruth! I live and breathe in the sunny island of Singapore. I’m currently in charge of partnerships for a pretty cool and upcoming mobile app.

2) What are your topics of interest? What do you post on Instagram the most?

I love anything philosophical and I’m an avid explorer of the world 😉
I post mostly about my life, bonds that I cherish, and um, myself.

3) How did your Instagram name come about?

Self explanatory; I guess my name’s pretty unique.

4) What are some apps you use to edit your photos? Share with us your photo-editing routine!

VSCO, for sure! And the in-app Instagram tools, they’re actually pretty handy 🙂
And photo wonder for the beautiful skin filter effects hehehe

5) Any Instagrammers whom you really like? Which Instagrammer inspires you the most?

I really love Jenn Im! Locally those that inspires me are Andrea Chong, Melissa Koh and Francesca Tan.

6) If there’s one thing your fellow Instagrammers just gotta try now, what’s it gonna be?

Try the mushroom and bacon risotto at Saizeriya. Really, ze best.

7) What’s your favorite part about being an influencer?

I’m definitely nowhere close to your list of top-of-the-mind influencers, and i most definitely do not consider myself as one at this moment in time. But if the opportunity arises, I’d like to be one that inspires women to fight for their rights, shout for equality, and perhaps a super avid dog lover!

8) What are some of your top tips to brands for running campaigns? How do you maintain authenticity?

Since I do have a few years of experience in the marketing field and working with all sorts of brands throughout my career, I think authenticity and advertising runs on a very thin line nowadays. With the influx of social media campaigns using influencers, I think brands have to seriously consider not working with just anybody, but influencers that can reflect their brand or product well; e.g If you’re running a fitness biz, find a fitness influencer. That would greatly increase the credibility of the campaign at least, that consumers see that you are doing your ads right and not blindly with those who have the highest amount of followers.

9) What would your advice be on the importance of quality and original content?

I believe both the influencer and the brand have a part in this. It is something that has to be worked out hand in hand. Thought has to be put in to make sure the influencers that you engage do not post similar content that makes it look like a widespread awareness campaign. It should sync in with the influencer’s lifestyle as much as possible to ensure that each post you see out there, is of a story of it’s own.

10) What do you like best about partnering with brands?

Helping each other! I’d love to help brands promote what we both believe in. In these days, collaborations work better and have proven to be more effective than competing with each other. I believe if a campaign is done well, only good can come from it!
