there was a period of a few days in huế where i found myself walking back and forth along the perfume river, in the afternoon but more often around sunset, and what surprised me—in the midst of a trip that was already so surprising—was how quickly i could be calmed by the river, by the sight of the boats, the citadel across the water, the people around me going about their lives, the sunset glowing through the mist. it offered a kind of stillness, and also a kind of presence, one i already miss. when i first arrived in huế i remarked on how much easier i found it to notice things, like: the offerings of incense left throughout the city, the restoration of a fresco peeking out from beneath a coat of paint, the han at a thiền temple, and the flowers waiting to be placed on an altar at từ hiếu, the root temple of thích nhất hạnh 🪷

tokyo/kyoto food dump 🌸 strawberry napoleon, truffle onigiri, freshly baked focaccia, me bullying penyo with a family mart egg sando, temakizushi party, shrimp tempura chazuke, ‘soil milk’ made with unwashed rice, this whole yakiniku meal went crazy but the wagyu tartar was the first sign my life was going to change, truffle and salt bread at roppongi, and a double order of fatty tuna because it’s my favorite 🥰
