I can choose to be creatively inspired, and I can open my eyes and heart to new ideas." -sara hann designs Originally I contemplated leaving this antique commode as it was with the burlwood veneer. A couple of months later, I couldn't stand the oak color wood and now here she is. A labor of love to say the least. Removing all the hardware was a pain. Washing all of it was exhausting. Remounting all of it was almost the death of me. If I have to hammer another pin, I will die. 😂🔨 The hardest part with this dresser was definitely the prep. I left some of the imperfections because they are reminders that she has a long history I can only dream about. It is part of her character like the scars we bear as testaments of what we have survived. She's not bright, shiny, and new. At the top, I had to fill in all the imperfections because of the marbling. I was torn about which colors to use and what to use with it. I stared and stared until my instincts told me I must use Modern Master's rose metallic paint with champagne and gold. The Hokus Pokus Tulip Dreams transfer had been one I've wanted to use for a while. I thought of pairing it with red or orange but it seemed too obvious a choice. I embellished her with the WoodUbend Mouldings rose garland mouldings on the side and the front of the bottom I used one of their pairs of long scrolls. I demonstrated its application of in my live. I sprayed them with Rustoleum's Imagine gold. Now onto the top. I save my faux marbling for fancy pieces and this one is fancier than most. It has been coated with resin for the polished, glass like surface. The step by step tutorial for this dresser will be available in my master class. There's many ways to get this effect. Furniture prep is not the easiest nor fun part of refinishing furniture but absolutely necessary. There is no such thing as no prep. Your paint job is only as good as what is underneath. I watched someone paint right over a cheap laminate table without any sort of prep. 😱 Of course the paint was streaking and you could scratch it off with your fingernail. Don't cut corners trying to save yourself time. My Sweet Valentine jewelry armoire. If you caught my live, you would have seen my daughter and me working on our V Day projects. I was working on this jewelry armoire that of course, I had to paint pink. Valentine's day isn't only about romantic love but also all the other types of love we should be sharing daily: friendship, pets, self-love, family love, platonic love, joyful love, love that is unconditional, love that has no strings attached, only for the wellbeing of that person. I wish the world had more love. There would be less violence, pain, suffering, and evil. Once you cannot love, your life is empty, without meaning. I work nonstop. Every day there is something that must be done. It prevents me from feeling the love I have from so many of you. I seldom stop to enjoy what I have. Slow down, breathe, be in the moment. I am trying to be different this year. It started rocky but I am trying to be the best I can. There will always be those who do not love me. Trying to prove myself to them is futile. Who I should be validating and caring about what they think, is ME. Self-love. The most elusive of them all. Why do we feel guilty for loving ourselves? We are embarrassed to say, I love my eyes. I know I'm not the only one who needs to see this today. I have been challenging myself to recite a positive affirmation every single day. The most difficult thing for me is even though I know what to think and the right way to react, it is my mind that sabotages me. I need to work on believing in my own self-worth. It is not easy and like everything I will have to work hard at it daily but I know in my heart that I am everything I want to be. I am writing down all the positive comments I've gotten over the year and putting them all around my computer and mirror. I am reciting my affirmations until I believe in them. I am taking action to better myself every single day. I am seeking help where it's needed. I never give up. If there's one thing that I can confidently say about myself it is that. No matter how defeated I feel I still keep going because I want to prove the naysayers wrong. It is reflected in my art. There is brightness even when there is darkness. There is love even when there is sadness. I try to bring what I create alive and evoke a feeling whether good or bad. Remember, there is space for you. You belong. You are needed. Your talent is needed. Do not give in to those who are wanting you to fail. It is because you are succeeding that they are wishing you do. Shine bright my friends. I hope this helps those of you who needed to hear this like I do.
