The @Orioles clinched a playoff spot yesterday so we are eschewing Nat’l Cheeseburger Day to celebrate with #crabcakes for our ⚾️ team! The #crabcake #sandwich special from @ChesapeakeTavern in #LongValley (in NJ, not MD 😛) was made with #marylandbluecrabs, seared and served on a toasted brioche bun with a slice of #JerseyTomato (naturally), red onion, and a creole remoulade that “clinched” our ordering it. Creole seasoning always wins. Fries with Old Bay seasoning topped off this great BMore meal right in one of the most beautiful parts of Northern New Jersey. What a great new #hotdog stop in #Medford! @1785FarmDog recently started a little farm stand and hot dog cart at their farm with all beef #hotdogs made from their own cattle. Slightly shorter than a factory-made dog but very girthy and served on a homemade roll that’s a little crunchy but easy to bite through, these spicy dogs were great. Homemade chili, kraut, onions, jalapeños, and cheese are available as toppings as well as many hot sauce, mustard, and catsup options. As soon as we heard that the owner group from The Brookdale in #Bloomfield was opening an #Italian restaurant next door with all housemade ingredients and named @FannysItalian after owners Joey and Anthony’s nonna, we were very excited. So excited that we arrived ASAP on their opening night tonight. . OK, we went crazy on this menu. It was all worth it! After work drinks from their curated cocktail list were incredible (with adorable movie quote names). . We opened our food order with both Crostone dishes from the “Snack” menu for appetizers—a cool whipped ricotta with crispy shallots, hot honey, and grilled zucchini on big toasty bread and then sausage, peppers, provolone, and chimichurri on grilled Italian bread served warm. Both were amazing and very different from each other. We were surprised at how great both were. Then we tried the Baked Clams (served by Emily) stuffed with nduja sausage, chimichurri, bread crumbs, and lemon. Phenomenal. We ordered big so we asked for some time between courses because we were quickly becoming full and we had some big dishes coming next. . The entrees were Cavatelli Carbonara made simply with crispy big chunks of guancale, pecorino cheese, and egg. Perfect pasta dish. Next was the #vegan Mushroom Lasagna with Walnut Bolognese—@chefbigsexy made this for himself years ago when he was in a vegan period of his life and promised himself he’d add to a menu someday. We’re glad he did because it’s a dream. Huge, earthy, tons of crispy edges, and the walnuts in the sauce add a very unique texture to a dish that’s easy to turn into a homogenous clump in the wrong hands. Home run dish. Finally, we got the Wagyu Meatballs served on a polenta cake with a vinaigrette made with long hot peppers. Delicious. We spent time between dishes texting different friends to make sure they knew Fanny’s was open.
