For many of us, the ocean is our second home. Yet, beneath its sparkling surface, a hidden danger lurks. What if our cherished waters hide a troubling secret? What if we unwittingly expose ourselves to toxic chemicals and plastic while immersing ourselves in our favourite activities? It’s time to face the truth and take action ⚡️ Whether you are in the ocean most days or only a few times a year, YOUR voice matters in preserving it. Please take our survey and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment 👉 Link in bio 🔬🌊 You are directly contributing to preserving our aquatic ecosystems by sharing your observations with us. Our collective of positive activists, expertise and advocacy teams act daily to protect recreational and bathing areas. But we can’t do it alone! Why take part in our survey? 🔍 To better understand the state of our waters: The survey aims to take a snapshot at a given moment of the areas where we bathe and play. Your answers will help us better understand the current state of water quality and identify threats and problems. 💪 Support our fight: Your participation shows you care about our aquatic ecosystems. Together, we can raise more awareness and encourage decision-makers to take action to protect this priceless resource. 🌍 Acting for a sustainable future: By sharing your observations, you are helping to create an essential database for our expert advocacy teams. Our goal is to reach a wide range of European participants, so don’t hesitate to share this survey with your friends and all ocean lovers. Together, we can preserve these natural wonders for future generations. Many thanks for your support, and let’s continue to safeguard our oceans, seas, lakes, and rivers for future generations 💙 🎬 @noktestudio

The Dark Side of Plastic: A report on avoidance strategies to delay action on plastic reduction Here are the 5 avoidance strategies of corporations to continue producing AND USE more plastic ! @cocacola, @nestle, @unilever, @totalenergies and @adidas all have specific strategies in place to continue producing AND USE more plastic 👇 1️⃣ Shifting the burden: Companies like Nestlé emphasize the role of citizens and local councils in managing the plastic crisis, minimizing their own duty to decrease plastic use. 2️⃣ Investing in R&D without a strong deplastification strategy: Corporations like Total invest in technologies like recycled or bioplastics. These won't solve the problem without a strong deplastification strategy 3️⃣ Striking a chord with consumers: Companies like Adidas communicate that their products are environmentally friendly. This leads consumers to believe they're reducing their plastic impact and can make a difference by buying their products. 4️⃣ Smoke and mirrors tactics: Companies like Unilever use flattering or unclear calculation methodologies, reporting, rating tools, and sustainability indicators to make poor plastic reduction performances look good.£ 5️⃣ Acting behind the scenes: Companies like CocaCola have become experts in fighting plastic regulations. Despite creating a #sustainable leader image, companies continue to rely on single-use plastics and actively promote their usage. A plastic meteorite crashing into the sand? ☄️ Yes. It's the same effect on the environment but not the same cause!
🌏 Industrial plastic pellets or "mermaid tears" are invading our most precious environments! These small, often overlooked, plastic balls are the raw material for every plastic object that exists. But did you know that these pellets are so small that they almost look like sand, making them extremely difficult to distinguish?
🎨 With @icibarbes , we wanted to show the disastrous impact of these pellets, despite their tiny size. The analogy of a large-scale natural disaster, a meteor shower, perfectly illustrates the seriousness of the situation.
Every year in Europe, around 160,000 tonnes of plastic pellets are lost during handling or transport. Once released into nature, plastic pellets become an uncontrollable pollution and cause a real environmental disaster by invading our banks, our coastlines, our seabeds and even our trees !
The environment suffers, but not only: marine animals and birds ingest them, impacting all ecosystems and endangering our own health as human beings.
If predictions about plastic production and consumption prove to be correct, we must be prepared for these cases of pollution to multiply - both in terms of quantity and severity…
The EU has pledged to prevent this type of pollution at source, but these regulations are still a long way off 🇪🇺 We need industry practices to be regulated as soon as possible!

The meteorite shower must stop ❌ Report a pollution near you in the comments or by PM 💪

The tobacco industry is killing the environment! 🚬🌍 In a few figures it is: 🌳600 million trees and 200,000 hectares of land sacrificed every year for tobacco cultivation and leaf curing, leading to soil depletion, loss of biodiversity and desertification. ✈️a carbon footprint equivalent to one-fifth of the annual CO2 emissions of the commercial airline industry through its production, processing and transport activities, increasing the risk of irreversible loss of marine and coastal ecosystems. 🗑️an annual producing of nearly 25 million tons of waste over its entire life cycle. And what about cigarette butts and by-products such as puff? The cigarette butt, an ecotoxic bomb! ☢️🔥 🚭With 4.5 trillion cigarette butts thrown on the ground yearly, ending up in rivers and the Ocean. ⏰ Mainly made of plastic, they break down into micro and nanoparticles when exposed to water, releasing 7,000 toxic chemical substances. Specifically, nicotine from the butts can seep into water within 24 hours, potentially contaminating up to 1,000 litres of water and impacting ecosystems. The puff, the new disposable gadget 🗑️ 🙅 Made of plastic and lithium batteries, the disposable electronic cigarette are new tobacco waste contributing to the already-existing plastic and electronic pollution. Single-use and non-recyclable, puffs contribute to plastic and chemical pollution, with batteries releasing heavy metals, acid and nicotine, with irreversible effects on ecosystem health. It is time to wake up and be aware of the real impacts of this polluting industry. The tobacco industry is also killing the environment! 🚭🌊 #STOPCIGARETTESPOLLUTION More information in our bio ☝️ #oceanprotection #cigarette #megot #puff #industrie #pollution #environmentalcrisis #tobaccoindustry #smokethenenvironment

Taking a Stand for a Clean North Sea: the Coastal Defenders Leading the Way!💪   🏄‍♀️ On June 11th, @surfridernetherlands spoke out their frustration alongside other NGOs in this Coastal Defender case to fight company inaction against pollution. Together, surfers, residents, artists, and numerous stakeholders united in Wijk aan Zee to raise awareness about the critical water and air pollution caused by Tata Steel and its impact on the North Sea.   🌎 The passion and determination displayed by everyone present was truly remarkable. The community came together to emphasise the core importance of a clean and healthy North Sea. 👉 @surfridernetherlands has been diligently working to address the health complaints reported by water sports enthusiasts due to Tata Steel’s pollution. The time for action has come, and we are ready to demand change.   🍿You can watch ‘Europe’s Biggest Lie.’ : The documentary exposing the dangers posed by Tata Steel’s pollution on @surfridernetherlands YouTube Channel !   We urge the company to take responsibility for its environmental impact and the health of local communities. We firmly advocate for sustainable solutions that will effectively reduce pollution along the Dutch coast.   🗓️Next steps ? An event organised by @greenpeacenl on the 24th June to bring to light Tata Steel’s inaction in the Netherlands and Europe!   Our commitment for a cleaner, healthier North Sea does not end now. Stay tuned !   #water #sustainable #change #event #community #europe #sports  #CleanOceans #HealthyEnvironment #EnvironmentalResponsibility #NorthSeaProtection #Sustainability #NorthSea
