Historically, lesbians have been deprived of resources and institutions for play and leisure compared to their gay counterparts. In New York, sauna parties have become the latest nightlife attraction, with many becoming newly desired spaces for the queer community. This year, there was Wavy Spa, an event thrown by queer party @club.carry, a two-stage rave with 13 DJs at a secret location. A few months later, elusive techno party Outlaw hosted a night in a cabin sauna. Then, an unlikely collaboration—Brooklyn radio station Half Moon, LadyFag (of Battle Hymn fame) and Red Bull Curates—joined forces to host a bathhouse party. A spark of light erupting from a naked, crouched body adorns the cover of Sodomy, the new EP from @jorkes0 on their label Freeride Millenium. The image, serious yet playful, seems to represent an outburst of ideas and emotions from a person's inner core, literally. An inquest into the death of MF DOOM has heard of concerns around the hospital treatment he received before his death.⁠ ⁠ The iconic masked rapper died in October 2020, aged 49. His wife told Wakefield Coroner's Court that his death was caused by negligence, adding that he wasn't being checked on regularly and had been unable to alert staff to his deteriorating condition as his "buzzer" was out of reach. As @tresorberlin turns 32, a new short documentary contends with its past, present and future.⁠ ⁠ Tresor, one of Berlin’s oldest and consistently popular techno institutions, celebrates 32 years in 2023.
