Joel A. Rosenthal, better known as JAR, is the most sought after contemporary jeweler designer today. He makes only about 70 pieces a year, and most collectors don’t want to part their pieces – which makes this upcoming Christie’s sale a big event. On June 8, the auction house will offer the largest collection of JAR jewels (19 pieces) ever to come to market. It includes this magical Branch Under Snow bracelet, which also appeared in the designer’s solo exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (estimate $400,000-$600,000), and a pair of natural pearl earrings. Tomorrow morning we are going to walk the 20 acres we are about to close on in St. George. It feels daunting and surreal to take on the work of making all the things we dreamed of, in terms of our home and land, come to fruition. I usually feel comfortable editing, changing and altering- having this big expanse of possibility is overwhelming for me. Sometimes it is hard to see a path forward when nearly limitless options swirl around in my head. We are going to take it slow and I am going to work on enjoying the process and allow all of the dreams and inspiration to fuel me as opposed to hold me back. Gardens and creative space is something that occupies our heads and hearts and is a big driver behind this decision to start with a blank slate and build it over time. The cottage and gardens in these images are big inspirations for me. I photographed this space when we were in the UK this past fall. I connect to the controlled chaos of English cottage gardens, maybe because that is what life feels like. (Grasmere, Lake District, UK | 2021)

This photo was taken on the top level of the pergola area , which has wonderful views across the garden and Heath. It’s just so beautiful. This was taken at the end of April when the plants were just beginning to bloom, particularly the gorgeous apple blossom. Garden Notes: I love summer. Today I planted Mammoth Sunflower seeds. They grow 12 feet tall and have massive blooms. Last year I tried these and they were huge—spectacular. I got the seeds from Amazon—only place I’ve found them.
