Grow from Seed 🌿 I’ve been down the road of taking a ‘short cut’ to growing plants from ready seedlings. But I quickly learnt that growing from seed was a more economical way to grow veggies. It’s also much more exciting to watch the seed sprout and grow and it ends up being extremely rewarding in the end. But then … I got too addicted to the sensation of buying seeds that I ended up with packets everywhere. Then I came across this popular storage solution (used for photos) but commonly used by garden lovers to store their seeds and it has worked a charm! My biggest tip though is to label your plants when you grow them otherwise you’ll end up like me … confused about what is growing where (it has happened to me a few times!) these plant slate labels by @hoselinkofficial are great because they’re reusable and durable. How I top up my beds! At the end of each growing season you will find your soil level has dropped so every 3-6 months this is how I top up my beds. I have cleared the bed leaving in place a squash plant, and here you can see how I top up around the existing plant. My secret weapon in my raised beds is mushroom compost! Did you know mushroom compost can hold up to 3 times more moisture than regular soil! And it brings many nutrients to your plants 😍 I use mushroom compost in the bottom layers of my soil, planting straight into this amazing @rockypointau soil mix! I top the soil with sugar cane mulch and give everything a good water in with eco seaweed. My @hoselinkofficial fertiliser spray mixer is such an amazing time saver, I have always used my watering can which takes a lot of time and effort so this product has been amazing! The best tip I can give when it comes to growing tomatoes is to water the plants at the roots as apposed to the leaves. This helps to prevent disease, ensuring healthier plants for abundant harvests! My tomatoes here in the Subtropics are already well on their way, but for most of you that will be planting yours soon, these @hoselinkofficial weeper hoses have been a game changer in my garden. My top 7 tomato countdown💥 In 2nd place🥈 is another Wild Boar Farms variety called Blood Moon. It’s the first time I have grown this variety and it won’t be the last. Here’s a close look at the cross section, after slicing it with my @hoselinkofficial Garden Knife. Note that juicy flesh with that vibrant red core. Its skin features a bronze metallic shade with brushstrokes of olive green striping all over. Appropriately named, stunning blood red highlights develop as they ripen and ready to harvest. This is where it gets interesting, the flavour is a knockout and ticks all the right boxes for me. Upfront rich and complex flavour with a savoury and buttery note. The finish will surprise you with a salty-spicy after taste. The indeterminate plants grows vigorously and produce well all season long. 》FREEZE DRYING SPICES《 on today's agenda is preparing and freeze drying some dill, well lots of dill 😄 I'm not a huge fan of dill and honestly apart from pickles I have no idea how to use it 😆 but I have lots growing so it will get freeze dried and that's how it can be used later on. I found that freeze drying preserves herbs and spices absolutely perfect and once they are rehydrated they smell and taste like perfectly fresh herbs. Now if you don't have a freeze dryer just air dry it or dehydrate it. Anyone has other ideas of how to use dill? Cooking or tea maybe? I don’t have a door from my kitchen to the outside, and the closest door is actually the front door… so I plant my herbs right there! Makes them easy to harvest when I’m cooking. ⠀ This is coriander, it grows fabulously in Perth during the colder months but does not like summer at all. Too hot and it bolts (goes to flower/seed). One way around this is to plant continuously - plant seed, then plant more seed a couple of weeks later, then plant again a couple of weeks after that. I saw this out of the corner of my eye the other day and just had to share. See that pile on the left?
