🚨 In case you missed it, a couple of days ago we announced some big news - we now have a full staff running LGC together! (🇪🇸 Para Español, haga clic en el botón "ver traducción" debajo de este post 👇🏽) 👋🏽 If you’re new to our community, here’s a bit of our story: ✨We started in 2010 in Madrid, Spain, with the desire of skating with more women… and ended up changing an industry and social stereotypes. Things were very different back then, when our founders @jackymadenfrost and @valeriakechichian created Longboard Girls Crew (LGC). There were just a handful of women, trans and non-binary people longboarding together in the world. We wanted to make this sport, absolutely male-dominated at the time, as inclusive as possible. We wanted more - and better - representation for us, as what we had back then was scarce and extremely sexualized. Representation matters, but the quality of that representation is equally important. 💪🏽 Through videos, a new kind of exposure where diversity was key, events and 100+ ambassadors in 60+ countries we branched out to become the biggest longboard community in the industry. Guided by the force, empowerment and transformation longboarding brought to our lives @valeriakechichian created our non-profit @longboardwomen using skate and longboarding as tools for social change in extremely vulnerable areas around the world 🌎 ⚡️In 2020, @valeriakechichian passed the torch of @longboardgirlscrew to @isabellacrm . Isa had started longboarding because of LGC and was our ambassador for some years, and it felt like a natural, magical transition. This brings us to today, when we are announcing the creation of a full staff to support this beautiful community that has changed the lives of so many people around the world. We welcome @alsolaura, @ruba_nemekh, @daniellecharlottedavis and @georgeluck as our coordinators, along with @isabellacrm as director (you can read more about our stories in this post). We’re stoked for all that’s to come and so proud of where we started. Let’s keep changing the game 🔥

SO… here’s the @longboardgirlscrew recap of last year’s @soyoucanlongboarddance 💛 We have been partnering with SO… for the past years because we want to see more of us participating and competing in this and all longboard competitions around the world. We firmly believe representation matters, so we’ve interviewed women riders at the event to share how they felt participating in the event. June 28th marks the date of the Stonewall Riots, the pivotal event that transformed the movement for LGBTQIA+ rights around the world, and the reason why Pride month is celebrated in June. Every year we reaffirm our stance that Pride should be every day and not just one month a year - but we know there’s still a long way to go for that to be true. This year, we feel it’s important to spotlight an important discussion happening in our community: the participation of Trans women in women’s categories in competitions. Our stance is very simple: Trans women are women. We have been working since 2010 to fight for inclusion and to empower women and girls in longboarding - and Trans women for sure are included in our mission. We understand there are many questions and discussions about the inclusion of Trans women in sports in general, beyond longboarding - and that can be a healthy debate to have, if leading with curiosity, compassion and respect. We firmly believe that great discussions and more inclusive outcomes happen when we call people in, instead of calling them out. So for this year’s post to mark Pride month, we pass the word to an athlete and activist we really admire. @pinkmantaray is the first transgender athlete to compete in any sport on an NCAA Division 1 men’s team, and he’s collected extensive research on this topic. This is just a starting point and our call to action for everyone this Pride month is to continue seeking information, to give yourself and others grace in the process of learning and unlearning, and to keep fighting with us for a more inclusive community for all. In the beginning of the month, @lgcindonesia participated in the DXI @deepandextreme event - and it was so cool 😍🙌🏽 This year DXI introduced land extreme sports such as mountain biking and surfskating and built small parks for mountain biking and a wavebank for surfskating 🛹 In support of our friends in the Indonesian surfskating communities, @lgcindonesia were had a booth at the event to introduce longboarding to visitors, present their crew and spotlight the longboard community based in Jakarta. They also participated in a talk-show during the event and were later interviewed by Indonesia National TV!! Big congrats to @saviradina, @cold_ocha and @jprfsjessica for #representing!
