The very first edition of Thurayya Retreats has come to a close and needless to say, our hearts are SO full. This week-long experience brought together a group of strangers from around the world — 12 incredible attendees, 3 retreat leaders and Thurayya’s creator, @jetsetbecks — to gather for a transformative experience in a magical hilltop villa in Mirissa, Sri Lanka. And oh, how we filled that house with love and energy! We laughed together, we cried together, and most importantly, we created lasting connections with one another. It’s true what they say: we arrived as strangers, became friends and left as family. Sri Lanka 2024 certainly won’t be our last retreat, but the memories made this past week will always hold a sacred and cherished place in our hearts. Thanks to the 12 incredible, openhearted and authentic women for their trust in us. We appreciate you all. If I went through life doing only what the world expects me to do, I would have missed SO many of the best experiences of my life. “Stay close to home.” “Don’t go there alone.” “Start a family.” “Be a mother.” “Don’t do anything dangerous.” “Be mindful of perceptions.” I used to worry way too much about disappointing someone or what other people would think—and truth be told, it still gets to me sometimes. But I’m thankful I’m able to f*ck it and follow my heart often enough to have a life full of adventure. To anyone NOT doing what makes them happy or not taking that leap because of what someone else will say or think (especially one person in particular who knows who she is), stop caring what the world says. 30+ injections. 38 prescriptions. 16 ultrasounds. 3 surgeries. Countless pills. And more tears than I’d care to keep track of. In the end, 10 eggs successfully frozen. After 3 rounds of treatment between March and July, my egg freezing journey is over, and WOW what a learning it was. I connected with so many women over their own journeys and questions, and realize how little most of us know about this stuff and how uncommonly we talk about it. But so many of you reached out to me and either showed genuine support or shared your own journeys, and it was ultimately what got me though the hardest, darkest days. Let’s keep doing that. Every morning during my retreats the girls will find me with a coffee in hand, my under-eye patches stuck on, ready for a warm morning hug from everyone, and excited for our daily movement session. I honestly love the morning hours both in everyday life and (especially) during my retreats — no matter how late we stayed up the night before. These moments are not only precious to me, but some of what I miss the most after the experience comes to an end. Missing all my sisters around the world today 🫶💛
