The Falcon / Peterhouse Expedition to the "Mountains of the Moon" - the Rwenzori Mountains is underway. ‘The Rwenzori Mountain range is Africa’s highest, straddling the border between DRC and Uganda. Despite lying on the equator, the Rwenzoris have permanent glaciers, though they are receding fast and are predicted to have disappeared by the end of the decade. Our summit attempt at the highest point - Margherita Peak, lying at 5,109m (the third highest peak in Africa) - will be next Sunday. On summit day, we wake up at 2 am, put on our crampons, and rope up to tackle the glacier. The whole hike will be extremely challenging, from tropical rainforest to bogs to alpine meadows to the glacier, and we will need to contend with exhaustion, altitude sickness, knee-deep mud, rain, snow, and high winds. The region is home to incredibly diverse ecosystems and unique flora and fauna and was coined “the Mountains of the Moon” by ancient explorers looking for the source of the Nile. We have 3 students from Falcon and 6 from Peterhouse on the expedition. I'm joined by Huntsman Greaves, Dominique Nielsen-Doran, and Bruce Mutatu - sadly, no one from Team Tredgold this time. We'll be completely out of touch during the trip, but we will get back to Harare on the 31st - hopefully with positive news! We'd appreciate your prayers for a safe and rewarding trip.’ Mr Tanser #sicituradastra #proudlyfalcon #falconcollege #somuchmorethanjustaschool #expedition
