THE CONCEPT OF "MIND-MUSCLE" CONNECTION . . Lately, I've been noticing more and more coaches on social media talking about "mind-muscle" connection and what exercises we can do in order to feel those specific muscles! Nothing against that at all although in my opinion, I hardly believe that in order to "connect" with a muscle, you first have to know how to fully contract it as well as how to fully stretch it! Can you bring both attachments (no such thing as insertion and origin) of a muscle as close together as possible, and can you get them apart as much as possible? . Which also means that YOU HAVE TO KNOW YOUR MUSCLE ANATOMY!. Professionals keep stating that if you can't feel a muscle, then the joints that are involved with that muscle are not in proper position or "misaligned". Yes, that can be true to an extent, but to me, first and foremost, you should know what the hell does that muscle actually do to begin with! . . The bicep, for example! It doesn't just bend the elbow! It supinates the forearm, it bends the elbow, it raises the shoulder up, and depending on which head we are targeting, it may also horizontally adduct or abduct the shoulder! The trick here now is, can you do ALL the moves together and squeeze the hell out of that bicep to get the most contraction possible to the point that it cramps? Then, can you fully stretch the muscle by doing the exact opposite motions? . . Then in order to get this "mind-muscle" connection embedded in your brain (brain maps), you'll have to maintain that contraction/stretch for more than 6 seconds in order to create what we call "neural drive". So timing does matter. . . Again, this is my opinion on the matter since I work primarily with the brain and not only thinking biomechanically! I welcome your opinions and thoughts! . #mundmuscleconnection #muscle #fitness #injury #biceps #lats #brain #nervoussystem #neuralink #gymmotivation

DOWN MEMORY LANE!! Ya'll remember this one? Back in 2017? . . This was a time I placed a lot of attention to the head and jaw. I studied the jaw like no tomorrow, and now I utilize jaw movement fairly enough in my practice. . . 2 reasons as to why my athlete and good friend @wesmoy1088 was able to touch toes just by moving the jaw AND the tongue: 1. He's learning a new skill! Any new skill we learn, the brain starts to activate and creates new neural pathways. Now, this is a VERY complex move, and the reasons for this complexity are to create more mindfulness. The attention and focus of the exercises matters more than the exercise itself. It's the effort of doing something complex that creates the magic. Wes is trying to move the jaw to one side while the tongue moves to the opposite side simultaneously. Easier said than done, but if the effort is there, then you can see the result. This amount of focus turns on the 🧠 (specifically the frontal lobe) and that, in turn, will inhibit (calm down) tight muscles. That is one of the functions of the frontal lobe: to inhibit other surrounding stimuli and place total focus only for the exercise 2. Jaw Proprioception (awareness of jaw position in space) is controlled by a nerve called the Trigeminal Nerve while the tongue is controlled by the Hypoglossal Nerve. Both nerves, when used and activated by movement, they both promote flexion, i.e., the ability to touch toes or the ground. Due to the location of those nerves in your brainstem, it is what facilitates flexor tone and inhibits the extensor tone. . . Hopefully, that makes sense. So if reaching your toes is important for you, maybe try this complex move with the tongue and jaw and notice if you're able to reach further! . 📽 @chadabbbyfit. Remember this bro? . . Like it? ATHLETE TESTIMONIAL! . . Couldn't thank world-class freestyle dancer @willxfenz enough for his testimonial! I've known this kid for years and have been helping him with any injuries he would present to me. Ive known him when he was just a very young kid, dancing as a hobbie and now hes so amazing, Red Bull sponsored him and gets to travel all over the world to perform. . . The unfortunate side of our work, which is completely normal for an athlete like him, is that he would try new movement skills in his dance performance, then would tweak an injury, and then we would fix it. Then, he would tweak another injury and fix that as well. That's what we, as healthcare providers, need to educate our elite athletes. Yes, we can fix those injuries, but don't expect to be 100% all the freakin time. You'll get injured along the way to the top and that's a price to pay but, if you work with a skilled professional or even better, a team of professionals, then you're on a more secure track . . LeBron James himself gets injured all the time, yet he has an entire medical team to fix his "owie," and then off he goes back on the basketball court to protect his crown. The same applies to every other athlete. If you want to train and perform like a world-class athlete, you have to recover like a world-class athlete. . . Thank you, @willxfenz!! Love how you've grown into your passion all these years! Proud of you kid! Just don't forget us little guys when you become super famous and rich one day 🤣 . . #freestyle #dance #redbull #worldclass #handstand #shoulderpain #wristpain #dancer #kneepain
