I’m SO excited to finally share this animation! I recently went on an Expedition with @natgeo to French Polynesia. We sailed through the South Pacific to the remote Marquesas islands, and took a journey into the land & its cultures - discovering what makes each island so special. Creatively I wanted to challenge myself to go on an artistic journey as well. I took in the land, the ocean, the people, the culture, the history, the music, the food, and the crafts to create the story of this piece. I challenged myself to develop a new skillset and style by teaching myself to animate on my iPad. Yes, this entire piece was hand illustrated & animated on the iPad!! It was time consuming to make and challenging to get right, but I am so incredibly proud of myself for taking the time & effort to create this piece - to best respect & honor the people of Polynesia. As we arrived to Nuka Hiva the community performed a beautiful dance & sang this song, “Haka Manu” - The Bird Song Dance. I recorded them singing, and much of their performance inspired this creation. Also, I was fortunate to be on the ship with Tua Pittman, an acclaimed traditional master navigatgor from the Cook Islands, who has sailed the world without the use of modern instruments. Continuing the tradition of guiding their canoe by stars, the Polynesian Voyaging Society have sailed on multiple journeys to share their culture of Polynesia to people around the world. This piece is my contribution to their effort, to artistically celebrate the people of Polynesia & share the story of their culture & voyages through my art. I am forever grateful that I was able to join National Geographic on this Expedition, and thankful that it sparked a creative light that inspired me to make this piece! A little sneak peek of what’s ahead & the tropical surroundings that are inspiring my upcoming piece! After my recent South Pacific Expedition with National Geographic, I came to the island of Mo’orea to enjoy some “moore”a sunshine - while working on a piece about our trip! (Check my highlights if you missed my Stories)! I’ve been so inspired by the people we met & places we traveled to, that I’m truly excited to be creating a piece celebrating French Polynesia! Perfect timing for Heiva - which is bringing me even more inspiration & knowledge about the beautiful Polynesian culture! I swear everywhere I look I’m inspired. Even outside of my place in Mo’orea there is this flourishing tiaré tree that keeps blooming more flowers & everyday I put one behind my ear, island style! This tree has fully inspired the beginning part of my upcoming animation…you’ll see! If all goes to plan I’ll have it finished end of next week. Wherever you go, there’s always an opportunity to grow! This is truth I need to be reminded of. Life has taken me on some twist & turns and ups & downs. I’m daily reminding myself to stay present in my surroundings, mindful in the moment & to be grateful for opportunities of growth….even when they’re hard & confusing to go through. On a whim I recently spent some time in Tulum & quickly found myself ruminating on my reality elsewhere. Though being surrounded by this beautiful jungle bursting of plants, I found it to be my daily reminder to be present & fully “go where I’m granted & grow where I’m planted”. Luckily nature’s message became louder than the weeds planted in my head, and I was able to spark new seeds of gratitude & growth from being in the present. Thankful for what Tulum taught me, & ready to be a better student to this ongoing life lesson. My inner child is thrilled that my lifetime love for creating, and artistic growth in Storytelling, would bloom into such a fitting & impactful opportunity! I’m beyond thankful to be partnering with @legoeducation, and inspiring students to #RebuildTheWorld through curiosity & creativity – sparking new stories from students to be told! This is so very fitting, as I've been in my own moment of curiosity & growth - pushing myself creatively to explore new ways of expressing my art & telling new stories. I've been saying this since my first animation, it's simply amazing what happens when you put your art out into the world. You never know what opportunities it will create! “NFTree Rex” Open Edition -SOLD- -Story- NFTrex spotted a vine of berries tangled up in a tiny tree. A couple of cardinals kindly chirped, inviting NFTrex to have a seat & eat the sweet treat. To much delight at moonlight the tree lit up with fireflies, as they all gathered in the berry branches at bedtime. To much surprise, all of the friends that NFTrex had met along the way worked together to gather the hungry dinosaur a treat! They found the fishing stick & packed it full of all the earthly treats that NFTrex couldn’t reach. Grateful for being surrounded by all the love & support, NFTrex sat down to enjoy the much needed meal. Hunger quickly turned to happiness, as they all sat together to enjoy the warmth of friendship & food. This whole moment was a treat to lava SO much! -Inspiration- This piece is a true celebration of my journey. Making this new style of art felt like an eruption that needed to explode out of my my head. I’m extremely proud of myself for taking this journey into a new land, and for the exposed vulnerability of exploring & pushing my creativity to grow. “Fungi Forest” SuperRare 1:1 -SOLD- -Story- Taking a foggy morning stroll, NFTrex nearly tripped on a shroom in Fungi Forest! Nearly able to reach a mushroom to munch on, the hunched over dinosaur didn’t give up hope. The ravens could see that their new friend was ravenous, so they all crowed & cheered NFTrex on. Though one raven’s crow sounded more like a chuckle, as he watched the hungry dinosaur struggle for the snack. Sadly they had watched many dinosaurs struggle & starve here before, as shrooms became their dooms in Fungi Forest. NFTrex didn’t want this fatal fate & finally moved on without a single shroom but only a feeling of gloom. -Inspiration- This piece makes me giggle, for so many reasons. The inspiration is about my favorite artist, created in true Ryle Style. Allow me to talk about Kiszkiloszki! He’s a “fun guy” who creates trippy & tragically comical scenes with a feeling of hope that turns to death & despair through devious skeletons & fairies. He’s brilliant. There's mushroom in my heart for his work, while dark and different from mine, it's a joy to watch! His creativity, craft, and comical collections are truly an inspiration. Hence the reason this scene is in “Fungi Forest” with a feeling of comical despair, with fluttering butterflies to boot! “A Whole Bunch” SuperRare 1:1 -SOLD- -Story- In the valley there was a group of apes bored of their bananas, and the buzz around was that they had left a bunch behind. NFTrex didn’t have to search long, as brightly hanging there in the tree was the treat for all the see. Though sadly for the hungry dinosaur the appealing snack was just out of reach. NFTrex tried to grab them by reaching up on tippy toes & even jumping high in the sky. With every jump a loud stomp caused the tree to shake, wiggling the bunch looser each time. Waiting patiently in the rain, NFTrex stayed dry under the leaf with the belief the treat would eventually drop! Though tired of hanging around, the starving dinosaur decided to split to search for other earthly snacks within reach… -Inspiration- I often have felt like NFTrex in this moment. There are artists that I love a whole bunch, but collecting them is just out of my reach. With full determination, I’m remaining perfectly content waiting for them to drop & hopeful that one day I’ll be able to reach high enough to get them! Also, on a personal note, I think it’s absolutely bananas that I have created this entire series mostly by drawing and creating each piece on my MacBook Pro trackpad using my index finger to draw. Any artist would agree that I am bonkers, but it’s simply how this collection came to be! “Going Coconuts” SuperRare 1:1 -SOLD- -Story- Thanks to the wisdom of the moonlit owl, NFTrex ventured into Coconut Grove having heard that there was a yummy treat with hearty meat inside! It didn’t take long for the hungry dinosaur to find the perfect shaded spot where coconuts continued to drop. Sadly unable to crack one open, NFTrex cleverly turned a stem of bamboo into a swirly straw and went coconuts for the milk inside! Having a little too much to drink, NFTrex fell into a deep sleep & continued to dream of the meat inside. Then buzzing in the air, a friendly fruit fly came along & told a dreamy secret of where the dinosaur could find a bunch of food… -Inspiration- My comical inspiration behind this piece is that I feel as though I’ve been lost in a forest of my art, and the creation thereof, while collections continue to drop around me. Luckily there’s so much quality art from friends that I’m going absolutely coconuts over! As each of them drop, I sip another drink & cheers to their success from inside this jungle I’ve created…while secretly excited to crack this nut for myself. “Moonlit & Lifted Up” SuperRare 1:1 -SOLD- -Story- NFTrex headed out to the Opensea to see what new friends could be found. Looking up at the moon, there was hoot coming from a moonlit silhouette nestled in a big tree at the very top of the land. The friendly owl invited NFTrex to come up to the top & swing for a while! Luckily there was a vine strong enough to let the dino ‘saur’! NFTrex instantly felt supported by this nested friend, and enjoyed hanging out while getting a better view of the land. The wise owl then shared stories of all her friends in many different parliaments. Hungry, NFTrex asked to ‘meat’ them all! “Hoot do you think you are?” the owl asked, “we don’t eat our friends, we collect them!”. Though in her wisdom, and seeing NFTrex was hungry for more, the owl shared a brilliant idea! She explained that the land offers plenty of things that are meant to be eaten, and told NFTrex exactly where to go… -Inspiration- What a serendipitous adventure I’ve had into web3! I had no idea that the kind offer to be included in Grails by PROOF would quickly lead to so much more with Moonbirds! “Reflection” SuperRare 1:1 Auction -SOLD- -Story- Surrounded by all the buzz in Firefly Forest, NFTrex suddenly felt something come to mind. It was a friendly toad who liked to stay out of sight, so it cleverly hopped on top of things to hide. Wanting to get a look & ‘meat’ this new friend, NFTrex peaked into the water. Taken back by a moment of self reflection, NFTrex stayed still while taking in all the beauty around. Further distracting the dinosaur from becoming it’s dinner, the clever toad showed NFTrex why we shouldn’t eat our friends and that they’re ‘mint’ to be collected instead! Yet still hearing the grumbling of hunger, the toad recommended NFTrex head out to the Opensea to see what other friends could be found! -Inspiration- This piece celebrates two Artists that I have connected with in web3. Not only through conversations, but with them I have found the feeling of commonality in our protection of our creativity & craft. As you may have guessed, the toad is a nod to the ever-so-loved & talented gremplin. Being a respected Artist in the space, he has created a long list of valuable & creative collections. CrypToadz being amongst my favorite! What I love about Toadz, in relation to gremplin, is that to me it’s a perfect depiction of who he is. A creature that likes to stay out sight, yet he cleverly always remains top of mind! Meanwhile, the buzzing of all the fireflies are the little sparks of joy & inspiration I feel from @grelysian (@gossamer_rozen)who lights up web3 with her beautiful & glowing creativity. @tigerbob_global was my first NFT purchase, and I’ve been so impressed with what all Gossamer is building within her brand. She’s one of the most talented & creative Artists I’ve met, constantly making new things while speaking to the importance of protecting her mental & creative health. “Third Biggest Web” SuperRare 1:1 -SOLD- SuperRare.com/rachelryle -Story- As the sun began to set the rainbow faded & its stripes filled the sky with Rose colored clouds. NFTrex hopped into the water with hopes to catch a treat, but then something else caught the eye of the hungry dinosaur. Going out on a limb to wave hello was a friendly web designer! The skilled spider showed off his web & told stories about the networks he had made all over the LAN. Some he had to Digg for & others were True Ventures in the trees. Then with great excitement the spider shared about the third & biggest web that he’s working hard to build! Eager to show if off, he invited NFTrex to come see Proof nearby & meet the Collective of critters that are helping it to grow. Curious to see, NFTrex followed him into Firefly Forest excited to catch a glimpse of all the buzz…& hopefully meat some friends! -Inspiration- Serendipity is how I got into NFTs! My blossoming friendship with the Roses (@kevinrose & @daryarose), led to Kevin encouraging me to branch out by kindly inviting me to drop my Genesis Piece for the Proof.xyz Collective within Grails. A clever art collection that encourages collectors to find a true connection with the art, while revealing & celebrating the artists after the mint. Little did I realize that this mint was truly meant to happen. It was a redirecting of my artistic journey, a “Renewal” of my joy for creativity & an opportunity to cultivate community.
