“Drinking less truly kick-started my recent weight loss journey. Down 55 pounds in about 19 months ⭐️ Photo above left from 2016. My weight fluctuated drastically during the past 20 years (I’m 60 next year). At my largest, I was a tight size 14 (173 lbs), which felt like a lot on my 5-foot-2 body. The photo on the right is me now — a strong and healthy size 4 (118 lbs). 🙌 I first joined @reframe_app in January 2022, and it wasn’t about my weight at all. During the pandemic, I started drinking nightly, and it just spiraled WAY out of control. My physical AND mental health were both in the dumpster, and I experienced depression for the first time. I was REALLY scared. Reframe app taught me how to cut back on the booze, and I also learned so much about the science of it all. For example, WHY I couldn’t stop after just one drink. It’s called PFC (Prefrontal Cortex), and learning about it was a game changer. 💪🏼 I also learned how to identify triggers that caused me so much anxiety over the past few years. For anyone new to Reframe, just take it one day at a time. Show up for yourself by setting cutback goals and doing the work (reading through the daily tasks). The community forum was such a big help to me when I first signed up. It’s anonymous, so we all wrote our struggles without judgment. Felt SO GOOD to not feel alone and have that daily support. I’ve tagged my reframe journey with #JoJoReframe, and stories are pinned to my Instagram profile too. I’m proud of the person I am now. My mental health is in a great place, and at 59, I’m the happiest I’ve ever been! These days, I still drink on occasion. Only once or twice a month when I’m out with friends (never, EVER at home). I’m no longer trying to lose weight, but I am working on my fitness every day. 💃🏻 Goal for my upcoming 60th birthday: Killer abs.” - @mylastbite We’re so proud of you, Jo! Some thoughts on #NationalSoberDay from Coach Kevin:⁣ ⁣ Today marks 1,600 consecutive days without a drop of alcohol for me.⁣ ⁣ But as I reflect, I find myself not thinking about these past 1,600 days but more about the ones that came before them. I’m thinking about 1,601 days ago after vacation and how I drank most of the leftover alcohol that came back home with us because I knew I was going to give this “not drinking thing” another go.⁣ ⁣ I’m thinking about 1,608 days ago when I said I’d give a vacation with moderation a try. It was fairly successful, but as I sat up at night, not ready to go to bed and having already reached my limit for the day, I started to finally question my own personal desire to keep this thing in my life.⁣ ⁣ I’m thinking about 1,697 days ago, where I was sitting on the couch by myself compulsively finishing another drink and said out loud, to no one but my dogs and with tears streaming down my face at this point, “I can’t keep f*cking doing this.”⁣ ⁣ Or 1,805 days ago when I stopped my Sober October attempt on day 5 because I had zero tools to cope with my stress and anxiety except the one I just tried to take away for a month.⁣ ⁣ These past 1,600 days haven’t been easy, but they have gotten easier at least with respect to alcohol. And in working on this one thing I’ve built up my ability to cope and work on many things in my life.⁣ ⁣ But it’s those days before that I’m most proud of really. I’m proud that I just kept trying to figure it all out. I’m proud that I flipped back and forth between trying to cutback and trying to quit until I settled in with what was best for ME. I’m so happy that I started therapy and opened myself up. I’m glad I just kept reading books and other peoples’ stories in order to learn more about myself.⁣ ⁣ So, I’m sitting here in that same spot on the couch I was 1,697 days ago, but crying different tears right now. Thankful tears for the strength it took him to say he needed help. Because the alcohol was just a symptom, a crutch he learned to use for the real problems he was stuffing down underneath it all.⁣ ⁣ Don’t be afraid to work on yourself. Don’t do it alone (there’s no need). Just don’t stop trying.
