Yesterday CNMI and EFI announced their partnership for the second edition of the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The fashion industry is re-evaluating its narrative to address the question of long-term value creation. It is gradually moving towards stakeholder-focused approaches, aiming to align its operations and outputs with planetary boundaries and the social needs of a world impacted by climate change, biodiversity loss, excessive use of natural resources, inequality, and conflict. Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) voted in favour of CSDD with an impressive 366 votes for, 255 against and 28 abstentions. Fashion Revolution celebrates this momentous victory for the environment and for workers globally, especially the people who make our clothes. 🔍 What? Companies will be legally obliged to investigate their supply chains and identify risks to people and planet. Workers, local communities and trade unions will be consulted as part of this process. The law will hold companies accountable for abuses they cause globally. Critically, victims will have better access to justice. 🏷 Who? For high-risk sectors, including the manufacturing of textiles, leather and related products, publicly listed companies, and companies with more than 50 employees and a net worldwide turnover of more than EUR 8 million will fall within this scope. For the fashion industry, this legislation will mean taking action on issues like child labour, environmental pollution and unsafe working conditions. This legislation goes a long way to address the root-causes of exploitation in fashion: unfair purchasing practices, extreme imbalances of power and a pervasive lack of transparency. Far enough? Not yet. We want the whole fashion sector to be covered and for every fashion brand to take responsibility for its actions.
