The construction of the cathedral of Zamora , in the state of Michoacán, the highest in Latin America , is practically built 74 years after its construction began. With this it became an icon of Zamora, which rose to fame a few weeks ago when the Army raided the “La Gran Familia” shelter where there were more than 450 children, who according to the authorities were subjected to slavery and sexual abuse. ⠀ . ⠀ Although some details are missing to inaugurate it, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Guadalupe de Zamora has become a tourist magnet and architectural symbol. The Gothic-style church, which is compared to the Cathedral of Burgos, in Spain, or that of Cologne, in Germany, but especially with that of San Patricio, in New York, had been abandoned for seven decades. ⠀ . ⠀ In 2008, however, a group of 20 businessmen and friends from Zamora invested a fortune to build the two 107.5-meter towers that were missing and this year they declared it finished. In August 2013 the bronze Risen Christ was placed on top and then the German organ built especially for the temple was inaugurated, costing 1.5 million euros, donated by the National Council for Culture and the Arts. .⠀ ⠀ . ⠀ 📷 by ( @crisdeyes ) ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ #Zamora #Guadalupe #architecturalwonder #culturalheritage #agameoftones #knighttones #arquitecturamx #mexicanculture #worldheritagesite #mexicanhistory #colonialarchitecture #tradicionesmexicanas #pueblosconhistoria #pueblosmagicos #visitmexico #historiademexico #EstadodeMexico #traveladdict #wanderlust #centrohistorico #conocemexico #mexicanpride #tradicionesmexicanas #culturamexicana⠀#chilango #consumelocalmx #loves_mexico #mexico_greatshots #mexicolindo

The Plaza de la Constitucion is the central park in downtown St. Augustine. The park is on a square of land bordered by the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, Trinity Episcopal, and the Government House. The plaza faces the Bridge of Lions and features a central pavilion used for city events and live entertainment. There is also a public market that has been in use since the 1500s. Fish, vegetables and other goods were traded here. Today, local vendors set up tables to sell their wares. ⠀ . ⠀ The plaza has been a central part of St. Augustine since 1573 when it was first laid out by the Spanish Royal Ordinances. The Ordinances required that the plaza be laid in a rectangular shape according to the compass points, with the length equal to 1 1/2 times the width in order to promote harmony. The plaza earned its proper name for the obelisk that was erected to celebrate the Spanish Constitution of 1812. Other monuments included in the park include a tribute to American Revolution prisoners, the Confederacy, and soldiers killed in WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. ⠀ . ⠀ A pre-1700s well has been designated as a American Water Landmark, and the town plan and plaza were designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970. Visitors can enjoy local events at the plaza like a seasonal concert series or the Nights of Lights during the holidays. The plaza is surrounded by large cannons which make for a fun vacation photo op. The Plaza de la Constitucion is located across from the Government House. . ⠀ . ⠀ 📷 by ( @camaranamx ) ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ #zocalo #cdmx #Centrohistórico #mexicocolors #culturalheritage #agameoftones #knighttones #arquitecturamx #mexicanculture #worldheritagesite #mexicanhistory #colonialarchitecture #tradicionesmexicanas #pueblosconhistoria #pueblosmagicos #visitmexico #historiademexico #EstadodeMexico #traveladdict #wanderlust #centrohistorico #conocemexico #mexicanpride #tradicionesmexicanas #culturamexicana⠀#chilango #consumelocalmx #loves_mexico #mexico_greatshots #mexicolindo

Nevado de Toluca is a large stratovolcano in central Mexico, located about 80 kilometers (50 miles) west of Mexico City near the city of Toluca. At 4,558 meters or 13,800 feet, it is the fourth highest of Mexico’s peaks, after Pico de Orizaba, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. ⠀ . ⠀ The mountain, named Xinantécatl, or ‘the naked man’ is a towering, inactive volcano with two craters that now contain lakes (poetically named after the Sun and the Moon). A well-maintained state highway reaches the craters, so the area is a popular retreat. This one-time national park features footpaths, bike trails and camping. ⠀ . ⠀ The area was declared a national park in 1936 and now is spotted with fir and pine forests (much of the original cover has been deforested). Officially, the park stands at 51,000 hectares (126,000 acres). Wildlife includes the Zacatuche rabbit — which thrives on the volcanic slopes throughout Central Mexico — coyote, white-tail deer, bobcats and woodpeckers. Less known is that the park attracts divers, who explore these high-altitude lakes. ⠀ . ⠀ According to a 2007 Associated Press report archaeologists diving into the Lake of the Moon found wooden scepters in the shape of lightning bolts matching the description written 500 years ago by Spanish priests and conquerors about offerings to the Aztec rain god. The lightning bolts were found during scuba-diving expeditions. ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ 📷 by ( @betofrank ) ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ #NevadoDeToluca #camping #scubadiving #hiking⠀#biketrails #volcán #mexicomagico #destinationmexico #destinationmx⠀#visitmexico #visitméxico #mexicolindo #turismomexico #mexicotrip #mexicodesconocido #consumelocalmx #mexicolindo #mextagram #vivemexico #visitméxico #exploremexico #traveladdict⠀#travelandlife #capturamexico #mexicodesconocido #wu_mexico #gltlove #travelgram #instatravel #mexicosorprendente

It is time for you to feel like an astronaut in your own land, because you are about to step on a terrain very similar to the moon. You go from a coniferous forest to a semi-arid plain. The change of scenery is imposed by the petrified lava rocks. It is the Jardin de Piedras de Mexiquillo, located in Pueblo Nuevo, in the state of Durango. ⠀ . ⠀ The stone giants sculpted at the whim of nature can measure between 7 and 8 meters in height. According to experts, its history dates back millions of years, when the earth was covered with magma. But the result of its formations finds its explanation in the erosion of the wind, which was in charge of polishing each monolith, which are explored by climbing or rappelling. ⠀ . ⠀ They tell the stories of the popular imagination, that among its imposing ravines it is possible to see the image of the devil, so in his name he carries penance. Before reaching this point you must make a stop at its viewpoint, from there concentrate your eyes on the tones that the morning or sunset light gives to each element that surrounds you. ⠀ . ⠀ This ecological reserve, made up of 13,475 hectares, is the refuge of numerous waterfalls that come from the crossing of three different rivers. The most important and easily accessible during your tour is the Mexiquillo waterfall, which is 20 meters high. ⠀ . ⠀ In addition to enjoying the roar of the force of the water, some birds join in with their songs and noises, such as macaws. This fall is framed by endemic flora of the region, so you can breathe in the smell that two types of trees give off: Pinus durangensis and Pinus engelmanii. .⠀ ⠀ . ⠀ 📷 by ( @gabyguajardo ) ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ #Cuetzalan #Puebla #culturalheritage #colonial #mexicanhistory #historiademexico #mexicomagico⠀#loves_mexico #mexico_greatshots #visitmexico #visitméxico #mexicolindo #turismomexico #mexicotravel #mexicotrip #mayan #pueblosmagicos #mexicodesconocido #consumelocalmx #mexicolindo #mextagram #vivemexico#mexicocolors #crafts #traveladdict #capturamexico #mexicodesconocido #wu_mexico #gltlov #mexicosorprendente

Palenque is one of the first references that comes to mind when talking about the Mayan culture and its many vestiges, which we can still visit in southern Mexico. Before planning your adventure in the archaeological zone, let’s talk about the city that is home to it. ⠀ . ⠀ Palenque, Chiapas, is a Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) about six hours driving from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, four and a half from Campeche and a couple of hours from Villahermosa, Tabasco’s capital. It is right in the tropical jungle so the first thing that will catch your eye is the vegetation’s deep green that invades the landscape and the always floating humidity. ⠀ . ⠀ ⠀ Although Palenque wrote its history since prehispanic times, the city that houses the archaeological zone was founded in 1567 as Santo Domingo de Palenque by Friar Pedro Lorenzo de la Nada, a Dominican missionary who decided to unify the “Choles” families that inhabited the Lacandon Jungle. Priest Antonio Solís discovered the Zona Arqueológica de Palenque (archaeological zone of Palenque) in 1740. ⠀ . ⠀ ⠀ Of course, if any honey product crosses your path, give yourself the opportunity to try it because in southern Mexico you can find some of the best beekeepers. Amber is one of the materials that artisans work a lot and you can see it in beautiful pieces of jewelry. The color and precision of their embroidery is another of the crafts that you shouldn’t miss. . ⠀ . ⠀ 📷 by ( @daseza ) ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . #Chiapas #natgeomx #prehispanic #historiademexico #mexicanpride #tradicionesmexicanas #arquitecturamx #viajemostodospormexico #historiademexico #EstadodeMexico#mexicomagico #worldheritagesite #capturethemoment #visitméxico #mexicolindo #turismomexico #mexicotravel⠀#mexicodesconocido #mexicomagico #mexicolindo #ancientarchitechture #vivemexico #visitméxico #exploremexico #traveladdict #ancientcity #cenotesmexico #capturataxco #colonialarchitechture #palanque

A lovely sheltered bay on the Pacific coast of Guerrero state was home to a small fishing village called Zihuatanejo. In Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs, the name means "Bay of Women." This was a beautiful and quiet paradise. In 1970 FONATUR, a Mexican government tourism agency, chose the coastline just north west of this spot to develop as a tourist resort area. Like some other popular beach destinations in Mexico, such as Cancun, Los Cabos and Huatulco, Ixtapa was designed with tourists' convenience in mind. ⠀ . ⠀ The lovely stretch of coastline was built up with a string of resorts, two golf courses and a marina were created, as well as a small commercial area to host shops and restaurants. Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo are only 4 miles apart, but they offer distinctly different vibes. Ixtapa has large hotels and all the modern conveniences, Zihautanejo remains a charming Mexican town, though it has now grown to a population of some 60,000 people. These towns are located along the Mexican Riviera some 460 miles south of Puerto Vallarta and 150 miles north of Acapulco. ⠀ . ⠀ This dual vacation destination is perfect for travelers interested in adventure vacations and outdoor recreation. Ixtapa Zihuatanejo is certified as a "Culture of Peace Community" in partnership with the United Nations. In 2010, the community constructed a Peace Pole Monument as a symbol of its commitment to strive for peace. In 2015 it was deemed Mexico's 4th most popular destination in the Tripadvisor Readers' Choice Awards. . ⠀ . ⠀ 📷 by ( @luizscruzh ) ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ #ixtapa #Zihuatanejo #snorkelling #hikingadventure #surfingislife #seafoods #mexicomagico #capturethemoment #visitmexico #visitméxico⠀#mexicolindo #turismomexico⠀#mexicotrip #pueblosmagicos #mexicodesconocido #consumelocalmx #mexicolindo #mextagram #vivemexico #traveladdict #wanderlust⠀#traveltheworld #capturamexico #mexicodesconocido #wu_mexico #gltlove #travelgram #instatravel #mexicosorprendente #loves_mexico

The project is developed within what was the Old Psychiatric Hospital of Our Lady of Guadalupe, in an area of 24,536 m2 built at the beginning of the 20th century, located on the platforms of the Great Pyramid of Cholula, considered the largest ceremonial structure built in Mesoamerica . Architecturally, a development of pavilions was proposed that would allow the isolation of patients according to their disease. ⠀ . ⠀ The intervention consists of four conceptual premises; the first recognizes the building as a linking instrument of the archaeological zone, a connector. The second deals with the peculiarity of being on the base of the pyramid, so the conceptual approach starts from giving the Great Pyramid more relevance. ⠀ . ⠀ The third the reuse of the original spaces to respect the spatial configuration as much as possible and achieve the least impact and the coexistence of the new uses with the history of the place could be given. And the last one the reuse of the exterior spaces with a vocation for cultivation and as an archaeological reserve. ⠀ . ⠀ The Cholula Regional Museum project is divided into galleries on the one hand and a Tourist Services area on the other. The oldest pavilions in the building were used for archaeological and artisan exhibition galleries and elements of the volcanic landscape in the area. The next two pavilions will be used for commercial activities and restaurants. The last two will be destined to multiple-use spaces, the latter of new construction re-interpret the vaulted construction system and rescue the brick craftsmanship by integrating contemporary systems. .⠀ ⠀ . ⠀ 📷 by ( @engel_opolis) ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ . ⠀ #cholula #puebla #colonial #culturalheritage #agameoftones #knighttones #arquitecturamx #mexicanculture #worldheritagesite #mexicanhistory #colonialarchitecture #tradicionesmexicanas #pueblosconhistoria #pueblosmagicos #visitmexico #historiademexico #EstadodeMexico #traveladdict #wanderlust #centrohistorico #conocemexico #mexicanpride #tradicionesmexicanas #culturamexicana⠀#chilango #consumelocalmx #loves_mexico #mexico_greatshots #mexicolindo #travelgram
